Institutional Research Data Analyst
Southeastern Oklahoma State University's Institutional Research & Records invites applications for the position of Institutional Research Data Analyst.
SUMMARY
This position is under the management and supervision of the Director of Institutional Research and Records. The main duties include using skills in programming, data extraction, research, analysis and synthesizing of information, report development, and presentation to produce accurate and visually appealing report of the data findings for a wide variety of audiences.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*
- Produce numerous routine and ad hoc data requests and reports as requested departments on campus.
- Pulls and cleans quantitative and qualitative data for the purposes of preparing for data analysis and reporting.
- Produce accurate and visually appealing data reports for public use.
- Manage website collection of current and past reports for campus and public use.
- Develop standard reports and processes using data from multiple systems to assist campus areas in planning and analytics
- Develop, utilize, and maintain internal and external databases for report development to produce various university reports, institutional surveys, and special projects to meet the needs of campus decision makers, committees, and external constituents
- Participate in IR project planning teams to advance campus data analytics and use. Work collegially and collaboratively toward positive accurate project results with a customer service focus.
- Develop data visualization dashboards and support campus constituents on data usage and access in the dashboard platform
- Develop and conduct internal assessment of data processes, data management and data entry to identify areas of operational strength, weakness, opportunities, and threats.
- Collaborate with the IT department to develop and maintain relational databases and data warehouse to facilitate research and planning activities. Retrieves and analyzes data from a variety of data sources using SQL based query tools.
- Continuously improve existing procedures to enhance IR support
- Provide guidance to administrators, departments, and staff regarding data processes for a variety of reporting needs including assessment initiatives, specialized program accreditation, and retention studies
- Assist Director of IRR in organizing and analyzing data to meet the Federal and State reporting needs of the College (IPEDS, SARA, Higher Learning Commission (HLC), specialized accreditations, etc.)
- Capture and validate end-of-term and beginning of term data (where applicable) for enrollment, courses, grades, and faculty and staff
- Researches and stays current on emerging technologies and tools and makes recommendations for implementation to improve data analysis services and approaches.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
Required:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- 2+ years of work experience in institutional research, statistics, programming, data analytics, or closely related field.
- Basic experience with using SQL
- Demonstrated competence with statistical software, spreadsheets, pivot tables, and database querying software, complex relational databases, data management, and development of queries in Colleague or similar ERP system to extract data from multiple, complex data sets.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze problems and make appropriate decisions or judgments relating to complex research projects.
- Excellent communication skills required, both verbal and written, with persistent attention to detail.
- Excellent computer skills required with work experience using databases, spreadsheets, and data visualization as well as the ability to learn new systems. Current using Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, Argos/Envision and Colleague.
- Must be highly organized, able to prioritize multiple assignments, and able to work under pressure.
- Must be able to work independently, meet deadlines, and handle assignments with discretion.
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data analytics or another related field.
- 3+ years of work experience in higher education.
- 3+ years of SQL experience
- Experience with PowerBI
- Knowledge and experience with Colleague ERP system and Argos/Envisions report software.
