To assist with research activities within the Support, Health, and Resilient Engagement in Daily Life (SHARED) Experiences Lab directed by Dr. Courtney Polenick in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan. Key projects funded by the National Institute on Aging focus on family caregivers and older adults living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. The overall goal of this research program is to identify potentially modifiable daily experiences (e.g., daily stress and sleep patterns) within care dyads (i.e., family caregivers and the people they support) that influence health and well-being over time.
The Statistician Senior will work closely with faculty and research staff to conduct and maintain technical documentation of descriptive and multilevel quantitative analyses; clean, offload, and analyze actigraphy data to assess sleep and physical activity; prepare, clean, and manage datasets, including merging datasets together, transposing datasets from long form to wide form and vice versa, creating scales and indexes, and recoding variables for analysis; create tables and figures of findings; develop and program online surveys (e.g., REDCap, Qualtrics); lead or co-author manuscripts and abstracts; and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a recognized field of science or learning which is directly related to the duties of the position.
- 3-5 years of professional experience are required.
- The Statistician Senior must have experience in the management and analysis of longitudinal dyadic data and intensive longitudinal data, along with experience in (or willingness to learn) cleaning, offloading, and analyzing actigraphy data.
- The ability to independently select appropriate statistical tests in accordance with project designs and to solve analytic problems, including descriptive analyses (e.g., frequencies, correlations, and cross tabulations) as well as more complex analyses (e.g., ANOVAs, t tests, linear and logistic regressions, multilevel modeling, actor-partner interdependence models [APIM]), is also required for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in statistics, biostatistics, or a related field; academic knowledge of a health science discipline, such as public health, psychology, social work, or related behavioral sciences;
- Experience in managing and analyzing multilevel datasets in major research projects; experience in the use of Web Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to access and download data for analysis;
- Experience in the use of survey administration tools (e.g., REDCap, Twilio, Qualtrics)
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
This is a full-time position; 40 hours/week Monday through Friday, core hours are 9 AM – 5 PM but could potentially change based on operational needs and required meetings.
