Instructional Designer - Bellarmine University
The Office of Academic Affairs of Bellarmine University seeks an instructional designer to play a vital role in advancing its educational mission and strategic plan by supporting faculty in the development of robust, innovative, experiential, and student-centered courses and materials that align with the University's standards of excellence. These courses may be offered in a variety of modalities, including online, hybrid, and traditional.
The instructional designer will provide consultation and hands-on support to faculty, programs and schools in development and conversion of courses and programs to innovative online and other technology-assisted educational venues, using advanced technologies, creative design, and a variety of strategies for delivery. This individual will be responsible for consulting and working with faculty to create effective, engaging, and dynamic learning materials and environments in Moodle, Bellarmine's learning management system, utilizing appropriate instructional technologies. This will involve curating third-party resources, as well as creating interactive media and activities first-hand, through the use of industry-standard eLearning authoring tools.
In addition to providing instructional design support, the instructional designer will manage the institution's review process for online courses, provide support for the institution's video platform, serve as an active supporting member of the Office of Academic Affairs, and conduct other duties and projects as assigned by the Director of Learning Systems and Design.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative, creative, and tech-savvy course designer who can effectively work with diverse constituencies and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Outstanding organizational and communication skills are a must, as is expertise in visual communication, digital media, and project management.
This is a full-time, campus-based position, requiring physical presence on Bellarmine's Louisville campus during regular business hours, five days a week. This is not a remote position, but some flexibility in work arrangement may be negotiated.
Job Requirements:
- A bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline is required.
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with particular expertise in visual communication and digital media.
- Expertise developing innovative, engaging, and accessible educational materials and experiences for electronic delivery; examples of work will be required.
- Experience applying knowledge of instructional design theory and best practices.
- Expertise with eLearning authoring tools, media production hardware and applications, and best practices in accessible course design.
- Experience developing courses within a learning management system.
- Demonstrated ability and commitment to cultivate learning environments that are inclusive of students with diverse social identities and backgrounds.
- A demonstrated aptitude for team-based project management.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in relevant field.
- Professional experience in higher education.
- Experience utilizing industry standards in online course quality.
- Experience producing digital media, including instructional video materials.
Additional Information:
As directed by the Director of Learning Systems and Design, the instructional designer will:
- Champion rigor, relevance, quality, accessibility, and engaging design in all aspects of electronic course content;
- proactively consult with faculty to identify learning objectives and content;
- work with faculty and subject-matter experts to write, convert, produce and develop content and media for online, hybrid, and blended courses;
- track and coordinate all assigned online/blended course development projects;
- manage the institution's quality-assurance process for online courses and programs; and
- work collaboratively across the University to promote innovation and effectiveness in instructional design.
