Work Schedule: This regular, full-time support staff position will generally work Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with an occasional Saturdays, flexibility for earlier or evening hours, and/or extended hours during peak times.
Position Summary: The Simulation Systems Specialist is responsible for aiding in the daily operations within KCC simulation centers. This position works with Instructional Administration, Faculty, Adjuncts, and with supportive KCC departments to help students have a successful simulation learning experience. Their role is to make sure the simulation equipment, supplies, and simulators function properly and assist with simulations conducted by faculty/adjunct instructors.

Physical Demands: The job responsibilities are performed in an office area and presentation venues. Travel by car required. The job has intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (8 - 80 pounds). Typically requires regular use of one or more physical senses of medium intensity and long duration. Must meet reasonable deadlines, quotas or demands for accuracy, and may be involved in some mildly unpleasant situations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate degree (or higher) AND three or more (3+) years of relevant experience OR one (1) year of post-secondary education AND four (4) years' relevant experience OR five or more (5+) years relevant experience. Relevant experience and/or education includes a certificate, degree, or equivalent work experience in healthcare, computing or education field (EMT, Paramedic, nurse, or medical technician certificate).
- Knowledge of medical procedures involved within simulation.
- Knowledge of patient simulation services, technologies, and applications.
- Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software related to simulation equipment.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams, as well as use of Internet browsers and search engines.
- Knowledgeable with use of Mac, PC, and tablet computer systems.
- Ability to express technical information clearly and simply to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to learn new software and hardware both quickly and independently.
Preferred but not Required:
- Bachelor's degree in emergency medical services, biomedical equipment technology, health science, information technology, or related field from an accredited college or university.
- Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS).
- Experience in community college or EMS education.
- Familiarity with simulation AV systems and IT infrastructure.
- Demonstrated ability to manage inventory, vendors and preventative maintenance scheduling.
- Ability to assess, troubleshoot, and fix equipment failures in a timely fashion.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding job assignments and sensitive issues.
- Ability to work with internal and external individuals from different disciplines and different levels of training.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-motivated and require little or no supervision with the ability to work as a team member.
- Good analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and reliably meet deadlines.
- Experience working with high or medium fidelity manikins and simulation equipment for 6 months or more.
- Experience working with task trainers and simulators.
Proposed Salary: According to the published support staff salary schedule, Classification Pay Grade 15, 2025-2026 starting hourly wage range, step one $24.97 to step five $29.82.

Job Duties:
Essential Function: Simulation Operations for Student Success
- Serve as simulation operator by programming, testing, and running scenarios with faculty/adjunct instructors, assuring that the facility and equipment are set up for simulation teaching sessions.
- Prepare simulators and relocating to meet instructional requests.
- Set-up and tear-down of all simulation patient rooms and prepare each room for different scheduled simulation.
- Provide support for new/ongoing KCC initiatives by assisting the department in simulation demonstrations for prospective students.
- Attend Health Sciences departmental meetings to provide updates for simulation and support for student success.
Essential Function: Simulation Technology Maintenance and Coordination
- Troubleshoot, repair, and coordinate vendor-supported repairs of simulation equipment and systems, including high-fidelity manikins, control rooms, task trainers, and recording devices.
- Maintain simulation equipment inventory, forecast needs for replacement, upgrades, and new technology.
- Serve as the point of contact for simulation-related vendor relations, product research, repairs, site visits and procurement planning.
- Provide budgetary input for simulation operations and EMS simulation enhancements.
- Collaborate with Nursing and Allied Health leadership to forecast simulation operation budget, repairs, upgrades, and expansions.
- Ensure equipment is in working order by performing repairs or coordinating repairs on non-warranty items as able: manikins, computer hardware, and software along with recording devices such as microphones, cameras, network switches, and cabling.
- Troubleshoot all non-KCC IT-supported computers, switches, infrastructure, recording devices and travel camera systems.
Essential Function: Simulation Scheduling and Interdisciplinary Collaboration
- Manage interdisciplinary simulation scheduling for EMS, nursing, and allied health programs in collaboration with faculty and departmental leadership.
- Facilitate communication and coordination between simulation stakeholders, including program faculty, adjuncts, and simulation support personnel.
- Maintain and distribute simulation documentation for compliance with accreditation, reporting, and quality assurance.
Essential Function: Simulation Operation and Program Support
- Coordinate and support EMS-specific simulation activities, including high- and low-fidelity scenarios, moulage prep, and equipment configuration.
- Collaborate with EMS faculty to align simulation experiences with course objectives and accreditation standards.
- Maintain and troubleshoot EMS simulation-specific equipment such as trauma trainers, airway management trainers, and ambulance simulators.
- Support interdisciplinary simulations by coordinating interdepartmental meetings with Radiology imaging, Medical Assistant, Nursing and EMS department faculty to coordinate scheduling for curriculum-based outcome simulations.
- Collaborate with the Health Sciences/Nursing Leadership to schedule site visits for potential students, partnering schools, and healthcare organizations.
- Assist the Director of Nursing and the Assistant Director of Clinical Placement and Simulation in developing policies and procedures for operations, scheduling, and training within the department of simulation.
Essential Function: Training and Best Practice Development
- Stay current with emerging simulation technologies and best practices through conferences, webinars, and professional development.
- Provide training and technical orientation to nursing and allied health faculty on the use of simulation systems and devices.
- Develop checklists, guides, and troubleshooting resources to support effective simulation use human patient simulators, and related AV Equipment.
- Assist with orientation for users of the Simulation Center spaces.
- Serve as a resource for Instructors for knowledge regarding the technical operation of the simulation equipment.
- Communicate in a professional manner with faculty/adjunct instructors, students, and all others utilizing/assisting at the simulation centers.
- Maintain proficiency in existing and emerging simulation technologies acquired by KCC for use in simulation.
