Simulation Operations Manager (Academic Affairs)
Job Description
The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, Center for Simulation & Immersive Learning is seeking a Simulation Operations Manager who will report to the Associate Director of the Simulation Education and the Associate Dean for Simulation & Immersive Learning and assumes broad responsibility for the day-to-day management of Simulation Center operations.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Supervisory
- Supervises operations staff, including interviewing, hiring, training, motivating, developing, evaluating, and initiating disciplinary action as needed.
- Performs needs assessment and recommends professional development activities.
- Coordinates employees’ time off and daily coverage.
- Works with the Simulation Operation Specialist II to oversee assistants, student workers, and interns.
- Ensures simulation projects are adequately staffed.
Operations
- Oversees operations of simulation-based activities including technology-enhanced simulation education such as extended reality (XR).
- Supports simulation event scheduling by verifying resource availability and managing conflicts.
Simulation Activity & Scheduling
- Oversees simulation space utilization and scheduling.
Environment & Readiness
- Ensures simulation and XR lab spaces are safe, clean, and well-organized.
- Oversees preparation and upkeep of simulation environments.
- Provides timely response to urgent work requests.
Equipment & Technology Management
- Monitors program needs and justifies purchases.
- Manages vendor relationships and warranty compliance.
- Oversees maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of simulation equipment.
- Conducts preventive maintenance and lifecycle management.
- Oversees equipment ordering, training, and record keeping.
- Maintains comprehensive simulation inventory.
- Develops and enforces standard operating procedures for equipment.
- Coordinates procurement requests and provides budget recommendations.
- Interfaces with JHSON IT department for simulation technologies.
Staff & Faculty Support
- Provides educational and technical support to faculty, staff, and learners.
- Serves as a simulation technician as needed.
- Provides guidance on best practices in healthcare simulation.
Quality, Policy & Accreditation
- Develops tools to monitor and report on quality and outcomes.
- Develops and enforces simulation policies and procedures.
- Prepares accreditation reports and supports compliance.
Program Oversight
- Works with leadership in strategic planning.
- Contributes to JHSON mission and ensures compliance with regulations.
- Develops procedures to optimize customer service and efficiency.
- Represents the Simulation Center at meetings.
- Supports grant-funded projects and Standardized Patient initiatives.
- Collaborates on simulation curriculum development.
Customer Service
- Assesses and implements processes for customer service.
- Acts as liaison to visitors.
- Represents the simulation program at events.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Five years progressive experience in simulation, including at least one year supervisory.
- CPR certification.
- Additional education may substitute for experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a health-related field.
- Experience in higher education and healthcare simulation.
- Management experience in a simulation center.
- Experience supporting faculty.
- Membership in simulation organizations.
- Experience with technology-enhanced simulation.
- EMT, CNA or similar experience.
- CHSOS or CHSOS-A certification.
Classified Title, Salary, and Schedule
Classified Title: Simulation Operations Manager
Starting Salary Range: $64,600 - $113,300 Annually
Employee group: Full Time
Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30 - 5:00
