The Santa Clarita Community College District/College of the Canyons is seeking a full-time Instructional Laboratory Coordinator III -The Learning Center (English) in The Learning Center.
Position Description:
Under the supervision of the Associate Dean, Learning Resources and Director of The Learning Center (TLC), the Instructional Laboratory Coordinator III participates in the daily operation of TLC by coordinating a wide variety of duties for the Center including overseeing face-to-face and online tutoring activities; hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating writing and subject tutors for the Center; developing and facilitating tutor training activities; implementing assessment plans to measure the success of Center services; implementing programs for expanding services; and collaborating with relevant academic departments to support student learning and success. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Example of Duties:
- Coordinates and oversees tutoring operations in reading, writing, and study skills across multiple TLC locations, including Valencia, Canyon Country, Online, and the Pitchess Detention Center. Performs complex technical and instructional coordination duties to ensure effective and efficient operation of in-person and online services.
- Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, and evaluates tutors and clerical staff; provides leadership and direct supervision to a large team across multiple campuses. Oversees daily operations of both in-person and online tutoring, including technology coordination and quality assurance of tutoring sessions.
- Serves as liaison between TLC and academic departments, as well as student services programs, to align tutor training, instructional workshops, and learning support initiatives with collegewide student success goals and faculty curriculum requirements.
- Collaborates with English and TLC faculty to design, enhance, and implement academic support services for diverse learners, including English Language Learners. Delivers instructional workshops and training materials that support reading, writing, and learning across the disciplines.
- Provides direct instruction and specialized trainings for writing and subject tutors on effective tutoring pedagogy and online learning strategies; ensures consistency and instructional quality across all TLC sites.
- Designs assessment plans to evaluate student learning outcomes and program effectiveness; analyzes data to improve service delivery, tutor performance, and instructional quality across multiple campuses and online platforms.
- Manages TLC’s online tutoring platforms and instructional technology. Coordinates, schedules, and monitors virtual tutoring sessions; identifies and implements new technologies to advance accessibility, student engagement, and learning outcomes.
- Facilitates in-person and online workshops on reading, writing, and study skills; provides direct instruction to students when needed and models tutoring techniques for tutors and embedded support staff.
- Prepares hiring paperwork and independently verifies and approves tutor and staff timesheets; ensures compliance with District payroll deadlines and budget allocations.
- Participates in department, school, and District committee meetings to coordinate TLC programs and services. Represents TLC at conferences and professional development events; applies emerging best practices to strengthen tutoring operations and instructional support.
- Manages TLC budgets and allocations for tutoring operations across multiple campuses. Approves expenditures and monitors monthly budget reports to ensure fiscal responsibility; prepares projections and justifications to support budget requests.
- Develops and oversees print, digital, and web-based marketing and communication strategies to promote TLC programs, workshops, and tutoring services across all delivery formats.
- Leads outreach and special event coordination to promote TLC programs and student success initiatives; partners with faculty and Student Services to expand academic support visibility across campuses and online.
- Maintains currency in instructional methods, educational technologies, and learning resources related to English and tutoring practices; researches emerging instructional trends to enhance TLC program effectiveness.
- Exercises sound judgment and discretion when addressing complex student, tutor, and operational issues; analyzes problems, develops creative solutions, and implements corrective actions to maintain service quality.
- Performs specialized administrative duties and provides advanced technical assistance to faculty, staff, and students; responds to complex inquiries related to tutoring services, technology, scheduling, and program procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience:
Two (2) years of full-time equivalent work experience in an educational setting at a community college, university, high school, or other related community agency.
Education:
Education equivalent to an Associate’s degree (60 semester units) from an accredited institution is required, which includes at least 12 semester units of transferable coursework in English.
