Instructional Services Manager, CUNY Tutor Corps (Salary Updated)
Position Details
CUNY’s Office of K16 Initiatives creates innovative pathways for young New Yorkers to envision and achieve success, by engaging strategic partners in confronting systemic educational inequities.
CUNY Tutor Corps is a tutoring and near-peer mentorship program that operates across all five boroughs of New York City. Tutor Corps hires and places CUNY students into middle and high school classrooms across the city. Tutors are trained and supported to become highly effective math tutors, with a focus on Algebra 1.
Reporting to the Director of CUNY Tutor Corps, the Instructional Services Manager will be responsible for ensuring strong program implementation through monitoring and improving day-to-day operations of tutors in NYCPS middle and high schools. They will manage relationships between Tutor Corps and their portfolio of schools, as well as supervise and develop the tutors within their portfolio.
Tutor Oversight and Support
- Oversee a portfolio of CUNY tutors assigned to middle and high schools across NYC, and manage ongoing communication with tutors to assess instructional needs and deliver targeted support.
- Supervise and evaluate tutor performance through regular observations and formative feedback.
- Monitor compliance with program expectations, including data collection and session documentation.
- Collaborate with Instructional Services Coordinators to address tutor performance and development goals.
- Equip tutors with strategies and resources to strengthen their effectiveness in math instruction.
School Partnership Engagement
- Cultivate and sustain partnerships with school administrators and educators to ensure program alignment.
- Advise school partners on best practices for implementing tutoring sessions that align with program goals.
- Represent CUNY Tutor Corps in meetings and school visits to assess implementation and support relationship-building.
- Lead efforts to collect, review, and utilize school-based program data to inform improvements.
- Ensure school compliance with program agreements and contribute to shared accountability.
Program Development and Operations
- Drive continuous improvement efforts by leveraging program evaluation tools and outcome data.
- Contribute to the design, development, and refinement of training curricula and tutor support systems.
- Facilitate training workshops, professional development sessions, and instructional refreshers.
- Manage strategic recruitment and selection efforts to identify high-quality tutor candidates.
- Manage cross-functional projects that strengthen integration between training, curriculum, and data operations.
- Develop and implement systems and resources that enhance tutor preparedness, engagement, and instructional impact.
Qualifications
Minimum
Bachelor’s degree and six years’ related experience required.
Preferred
- Minimum 5 years of experience in math education, ideally as a middle school (MS) or high school (HS) math teacher.
- Experience in tutoring and/or working with tutors or instructional coaching in math.
- Knowledge of Illustrative Math curriculum.
- Knowledge of middle school and high school math content.
- Strong facilitation and presentation skills.
- Experience creating training and/or professional development materials.
- Experience managing college students with a youth development lens.
- Excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills: the ability to work effectively with tutors, teachers, and staff; display superior judgment and diplomatic skills; excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Enthusiasm, commitment to excellence, highly organized and detail oriented.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and experience working with database systems; familiarity with internet research and strong knowledge of social media.
- Knowledge of NYC public schools and experience with NYCDOE is strongly preferred.

CUNY Title Overview
Manages curriculum development and operations of a College's specialized academic program under the direction of a senior administrator. Implements and monitors a comprehensive academic program development plan; makes recommendations to improve department policies and procedures. Assists Director with outcome assessment and strategic planning to further develop program offerings. Prepares analytical and statistical reports for management. Serves as resource expert regarding program policies and procedures. May manage professional and/or clerical staff. May act on behalf of Director in his/her absence. Performs related duties as assigned.
