Learning Specialist
Coastal Carolina University is currently accepting applications for the following full-time position: Learning Specialist in Student-Athlete Academic Services.
The Student-Athlete Academic Services (SAAS) Learning Specialist is responsible for successful support of student-athletes with identified learning differences and challenges. The Learning Specialist provides intensive academic support to an assigned group of identified student-athletes from various sports.
Required Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree and experience in student services programs.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree and at least two (2) years’ of professional work experience in counseling/advising college student-athletes.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Provide one-on-one assistance to student-athletes to assist with time management, organization, and study skills who have documented learning differences or who are identified as needing additional academic support.
- Work with academic coordinators to monitor and track the academic progress of student-athletes determined to need Learning Specialist Support as well as athletic teams assigned to position to ensure NCAA eligibility benchmarks are met. This includes providing accurate and timely daily, weekly, and semester academic reports to Academic Coordinators, coaches and supervisor, and meeting regularly with assigned student-athletes to monitor academic progress. Coordinate appointments for tutoring/additional support as needed to proactively support student-athletes. Manage the department’s role in the NCAA certification process for assigned teams.
- Assist with on boarding new student-athletes, including recruiting, orientation, summer bridge programming, and transfer evaluations. Collaborate with admissions, compliance, registrar and various campus partners. Manage transfer credit evaluations through collaboration with campus departments.
- Coordinate all aspects of the screening process for new student-athletes while being the liaison to Accessibility services for the SAAS department.
- Assist with the planning and organization of events and award nominations to promote positive cross-campus, inter-department relationships, and recognize student-athlete success.
Student Services Program Coordinator II (CB70/61121593/FTE-S01058P), full-time position with benefits. SC State Pay Band: 05. Salary range: $39,764.00 (minimum) – $56,670.00 (midpoint). This position requires working flexible shifts including weekends. The normal hours for this position are: Monday-Thursday 8:00am to 5:00 pm and Friday 8:00am to 12:30pm.
