Instructional Support Assistant - Anatomic Pathology Support

Position Summary

A Instructional Support Assistant in Anatomic Pathology plays a vital role in providing essential organization and support for the department. The incumbent may perform diverse tasks to keep the pathology office running smoothly, including data management, communication, administrative support, documentation, and ensuring proper handling/tracking of incoming and outgoing pathology material.

Duties of an Instructional Support Assistant may include the following but are not limited to:

  • Manage requests for second opinions as it pertains to anatomic pathology.
  • Process material movement: Record all material flows maintaining a detailed audit trail.
  • Referral testing: Utilize multiple reference laboratories for ancillary tests.
  • Transcription: Enter test findings into the Anatomic Pathology Laboratory Information System (LIS), maintain databases, and update records within the LIS.
  • Transcription: Compose high-quality professional email correspondence.
  • Registration: receive and process consult materials from external institutions, as well as internal specimen (cytology / autopsy).
  • Calendar management: Schedule patient (FNA) appointments and manage Anatomic Pathology conference room.
  • Communication: Handle high volume phone calls and respond to inquiries from hospital staff, physicians, external vendors, and patients.
  • Generate accession logs throughout the day and prepare corresponding case folders for specimens received.
  • Distribute and process daily mail.
  • Purge material with meticulous care for conversion to digital files.
  • Read and adhere to hospital/departmental policies

Qualifications

Required:

Associate Degree. Knowledge of medical terminology. Customer service experience. Excellent verbal communication skills. Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Outlook for scheduling and email management, Word for creating and editing documents, and Excel for basic data tracking. Proficient in fast and accurate data entry, and proofreading/editing skills. Personable and professional demeanor. Must be able to lift 20lbs.

Preferred:

Bachelor's Degree. Customer service experience in a Healthcare setting.

Posting Overview:

This position will remain posted until filled or for a maximum of 90 days. An initial review of all applicants will occur two weeks from the posting date. Anticipated Pay Range:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position is $45,372 - $53,060 / year.
The above salary range represents SBUH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate's validated years of comparable experience. Any efforts to inflate or misrepresent experience are grounds for disqualification from the application process or termination of employment if hired.
Some positions offer annual supplemental pay such as:

  • Location pay for UUP full-time positions ($4000)
  • Night shift differential ($15,000), evening shift differential ($10,000)
  • Inconvenience pay/supplemental shift differential. ($575)
