Job Summary:

The Department of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery has an opening for a full time Inpatient Orthoplastic and Hand faculty position at the rank of Instructor or Senior Instructor. This is a clinical position under the direction of a faculty plastic surgeon. This position provides inpatient and outpatient medical care services at The University of Colorado Hospital.

Orthoplastics is the multidisciplinary management of complex patient injuries. This includes management of extremity injuries that may require multiple surgeries (debridement, bony fixation, flaps/grafting, nerve repair, targeted muscle reinnervation, osseointegraion, and amputation). The candidate will be expected to provide independent clinical services for Orthoplastic and Hand surgical patients and act as a physician extender for inpatient rounding, inpatient care oversight, and consult evaluation. The candidate would also have outpatient clinics at the Anschutz Medical Campus Plastic Surgery office. The ideal candidate will be energetic and motivated to be an integral part of the team. Close collaboration with the surgeons, residents, hospital and clinical staff will be necessary. Prior experience or work with residents would be preferred. Eligibility for prescriptive authority is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Practice as a fully credentialed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner caring for plastic surgery upper and lower extremity patients under the direction of an attending physician.
  • Daily inpatient rounding on hand and orthoplastic patients with and independent from resident team.
  • Coordination of inpatient and outpatient multidisciplinary care and follow-up
  • Evaluate and manage patients who are candidates for reconstructive surgery including, obtaining a thorough history, performing an appropriate physical examination and ordering necessary diagnostic testing.
  • Communicate with patients (and families) to provide education about the risks and benefits of surgical procedures.
  • Triage patient telephone calls/emails and provide consultation.
  • Provide monitoring and continuity of care for patients between physician visits.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Electronically document all relevant data regarding patient care in a timely manner and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested.

Work Location: Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree - Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
  • Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
  • Colorado license will be required prior to start date
  • Ability to obtain prescriptive authority (DEA License)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 year previous experience in a surgical sub-specialty
  • 1 year previous experience working in an academic hospital
