Instructor, Developmental English
Do Great things! Durham Technical Community College is hiring an instructor of Developmental English. The Instructor is responsible for planning, delivery, and evaluation of classroom instruction, and for providing those related services and support activities required for optimal student learning and effective educational programming. As a member of the faculty within the Creative and Liberal Arts Department, the Instructor is also accountable for assisting and supporting the Chair and Dean in meeting the instructional and curricular requirements of the program, department, and division.

- Teach all courses, as assigned, for the full duration of scheduled instruction;
- Be fully prepared with a syllabus and instructional plans for each class session in accord with the stated objectives of the course;
- Enforce academic policy and procedures at all times, and comply with institutional rules and regulations;
- Maintain complete course and student records, reports, and forms;
- Complete all legally mandated, compliance-related, and college-required training;
- Respond to emails or other communication from students and supervisors in a timely manner;
- Maintain an active Canvas site for all courses with a minimum of the syllabus and student grades;
- Stay current with developments in the field of Developmental English;
- Must complete mandatory training;
- Refer students as needed to the proper student support services;
- Serve as an Academic Adviser to students according to advising assignments and as needed;
- Serve on committees as requested and fulfill committee assignments;
- Participate in program, departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings and other announced activities;
- Assume other necessary responsibilities and perform additional tasks as assigned by the chair, department dean, chief instructional officer, or president, in meeting the needs of the department, division, and college;
- Assume responsibility for laboratory/classroom preparation, including maintenance and cleanup, and recommend, as necessary, appropriate laboratory supplies and equipment
Education Required: A master's degree in English, English education, reading, or a related field with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in English or reading.
Work Experience: One year of successful teaching experience in a community college or similar postsecondary institution or evidence of other appropriate experience relevant to the position.
