Instructor in Communication Studies

Position Details

This full-time faculty position is on-campus and in-person.

The Department of Communication Studies in the Bob Schieffer College of Communication at Texas Christian University (TCU) in Fort Worth, Texas, invites applications for an Instructor specializing in public speaking, starting in August 2026. Qualified applicants must possess at least a master's degree in communication studies by semester start.

The successful candidate will teach COMM 10123 (Communicating Effectively), which is an Oral Communication competency course that is a requirement of the TCU Core Curriculum. As such, the person in this position has the potential to help lead the department in our vision to provide both excellence in skill development and understanding foundational Communication Studies principles. This position requires demonstrated effectiveness in undergraduate teaching. Expertise and experience teaching public speaking, interpersonal, and small group communication skills and working with first-year undergraduate students is preferred. We seek candidates who are committed to providing students with an active, supportive learning environment, and candidates who are able to teach all regular semester courses in person on campus across our available teaching time slots five days per week. Teaching accounts for 80% of the instructor’s responsibilities (four COMM 10123 sections each fall and spring semester) with service and professional activity accounting for the remaining 20%. Opportunities exist for teaching synchronous online COMM 10123 sections during summer sessions, which are compensated with overload pay.
