"Instructor in Welding (Tenure Track)"

Scope of Position

Teach and assess student learning outcomes in welding courses. This includes developing and teaching courses in shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, flux cored welding, pipe welding, and internships. In collaboration with a new program advisory committee, be responsible for ongoing curriculum evaluation and improvement. Facilitate student internships in welding industries in the region and facilitate learning outside of the classroom through participation in student activities, college, and community events.

Key Measurable Expectations (KMEs)

• Learner-centered Instruction: Teach WELD courses according to relevant student learning objectives. Teach evening and/or off-campus courses, if necessary. Provide office hours conducive to student schedules.
• Assessment: Participate in the student learning assessments required by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) or other accrediting or governmental agencies. This includes, but is not limited to, submitting relevant data, attending assessment meetings, and implementing improvement strategies based on assessment outcomes.
• Curriculum Development: Develop and/or revise course(s) in collaboration with academic and industry colleagues. Propose and develop interdepartmental course offerings that meet the articulation requirements in welding. Collaborate with instructors in developmental education and student-support staff in developing and teaching developmental courses that are contextualized (to the field of welding) and supported by student success services.
• Technology: Integrate instructional technology including technology appropriate to welding in a variety of industries as appropriate in the discipline of welding. Willingness to develop and teach online courses if appropriate; ability to web-enhance courses in Blackboard.
• Involvement: Develop, maintain and strengthen partnerships with WELD industries in the region and expand to newer partnerships. Support College-wide initiatives and serve on committees. Collaborate with the Director of Grants and other relevant College staff in the seeking of grants in welding and manage grants in this area that are awarded. Mentor and support adjunct faculty in welding. Willingness to partner with Community and Corporate Learning division to design training and potentially teach non-credit training courses.
• Professional Development: Initiate and maintain active participation in professional development opportunities that encompass the disciplines of welding and teaching effectiveness and maintain affiliations with national and regional welding.

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

• Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to welding from an accredited college/university preferred, baccalaureate degree required. Master’s Degree in a related field preferred.
• At least two years teaching experience at the college level in welding preferred.
• At least two years work experience in welding in the areas of shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, flux cored welding, and pipe welding, required.
• Demonstrated commitment to the mission of the community college required.
