Required Relevant Education & Experience:

For appointment as an Assistant Professor, applicants must have a doctorate degree in Accounting, or closely related field from an AACSB accredited institution by date of appointment. ABD may also be considered.

For appointment as an Instructor, applicants must have a master's degree in accountancy or M.B.A. with CPA license by the date of appointment and have a minimum of 5 years of related experience (teaching and/or professional).

Position Details:

The Scott College of Business at Indiana State University invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Accounting, available as either a non-tenure-track Instructor (Master's required) or a tenure-track Assistant Professor (Doctorate required). The position title will be determined based on the finalist's educational qualifications at the time of hire. Candidates holding a master's degree will be appointed as an Instructor, while those with a doctorate from an AACSB accredited institution will be appointed as an Assistant Professor. ABD with completion planned prior to August 2025 may also be considered for appointment at the assistant professor level.

The major responsibilities of Assistant Professor are:

  • Scholarly research that leads to quality journal publications in accounting. A demonstrated ability or strong potential to maintain an active research agenda is required.
  • Quality teaching at both undergraduate and graduate courses in accounting, depending on the candidate's area of expertise. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to high-quality instruction, with a preferred emphasis on experiential and innovative teaching approaches. Teaching may include evening classes, courses at remote campuses, or instruction using distance-learning technology.
  • Service to the college, university, and communities through meaningful service activities. Community engagement and experiential learning are strategic priorities at Indiana State University, and faculty members are encouraged to integrate these elements into their teaching and service efforts.

  • Quality teaching at both undergraduate and graduate courses in accounting, depending on the candidate's area of expertise. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to high-quality instruction, with a preferred emphasis on experiential and innovative teaching approaches. Teaching may include evening classes, courses at remote campuses, or instruction using distance-learning technology.
  • Service to the college, university, and communities through meaningful service activities. Community engagement and experiential learning are strategic priorities at Indiana State University, and faculty members are encouraged to integrate these elements into their teaching and service efforts.

Employment is contingent upon proof of eligibility to work in the United States. Salary is competitive with similar institutions and commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Approximately 100 students major in accounting, and the program offers accounting and forensic accounting minors, as well as courses for the MBA.

Indiana State University serves approximately 8,000 students. The Scott College of Business serves approximately 1,180 students in an MBA and eleven undergraduate areas. Candidates are expected to demonstrate their potential for quality teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels with a desired emphasis on experiential approaches. Teaching responsibilities depend on the candidate's disciplinary expertise; all areas will be considered.

Candidates are also expected to contribute to the college, university, and communities through meaningful service activities. Additionally, the candidates for tenure track Assistant Professor need commitment to conduct quality research leading to publications in accounting.

Title for this position is determined by the educational level of the finalist at the time of appointment. Candidates with a master's degree will be considered for non-tenure track Instructor. Candidates with a doctorate from AACSB accredited institution will be considered for tenure-track Assistant Professor.

Required Field of Study:

Accounting or related field in financial services area.
