Job Description
The Division of Teacher Residency and Education of the University of South Dakota’s School of Education invites applicants for an open Residency Instructor position (Instructor or Lecturer rank). The opening is a 10-month position that will support teacher candidates completing their yearlong teacher residency (student teaching). Responsibilities will include both teaching courses in the teacher residency program (e.g., classroom management, professional ethics, student teaching seminar, educational assessment, etc.) and supervising teacher candidates completing their residency in PK-12 schools in the Sioux Falls and surrounding communities. Additional assignments may be made based on the professional and academic background of the applicant to complement the strengths of the faculty and to address the needs of students in programs within the Division of Teacher Residency and Education, School of Education, and university community. There may also be the possibility of summer teaching for additional compensation. Faculty members in both the instructor and lecturer ranks are expected to make contributions in teaching and service. Our teacher education programs are CAEPaccredited and widely respected for preparing highly qualified and effective educators.
Qualifications
Applicants for the instructor rank must possess an earned master’s, while applicants for the lecturer rank must possess an earned doctorate. This position has a flexible start date, and applicants may choose to start either in January 2026 or July 2026. Applicants starting in January 2026 must possess their master’s or doctoral degree by January 22, 2026, while applicants starting July 2026 must possess their degree by July 22, 2026. Applicant degrees must be earned from an accredited institution in Teacher Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or another closely related discipline (Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Literacy Education, Math Education, Educational Technology, Special Education, Educational Leadership, Human Development, Educational Psychology, etc.). Applicants must have experience working as a teacher in a PK-12 school in the United States. Applicants must show evidence of accomplishments or strong potential for success in teaching and professional service. Preference will be given to those applicants who (a) have at least five years of experience in PK-12 schools, (b) those with middle and/or high school teaching experience, and (c) those who have previously supervised teacher candidates during clinical experiences (i.e., field experience, internships, practicum, student teaching).
Salary/Compensation
Salary is commensurate with qualifications. This position is a 10-month, non-tenure track appointment with the possibility of summer employment for additional compensation.

Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
