Job Description

The International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) Coordinator is a professional staff member in the Division of Academic Affairs, WORLD: The David and Leighan Rinker Center for International Learning, and reports to the Senior International Officer & Director of Global Initiatives, working 37.5 hours per week. The ISSS Coordinator will be a key member of the WORLD staff and is responsible for providing academic, cultural, and immigration support for Stetson's population of international students and scholars. The Coordinator will also contribute to the implementation of a robust strategic plan for international learning at Stetson University. The ISSS Coordinator is responsible for supporting the advancement of global learning initiatives including, but not limited to, faculty and international scholar support and international student and alumni development.

The hire date for this position will be no sooner than 3/1/2026.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

Employment duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Design and implement innovative and comprehensive cross-cultural programs with vigorous engagement of other staff, WORLD student ambassadors, and Stetson divisions in support of the academic and cultural success of international students
  • Lead the design of innovative and comprehensive awareness campaigns/activities for international scholars (faculty and student) including comprehensive engagement of all relevant internal/external stakeholders
  • Individual advising & counseling of international students and scholars on immigration, financial, employment, tax, academics, adjustment, health insurance, & personal issues
  • Implement educational programs and conduct workshops for international students and scholars (Green Card Lottery, taxes, etc.)
  • Ensure that international students and the university stay in compliance with all F-1 immigration rules and regulations
  • Serve as the Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) for F-1 visa students
  • Manage the SEVIS records of all F-1 students at Stetson University's DeLand campus
  • Organize and implement orientation programs and workshops for international students
  • Monitor & maintain student records & the University's compliance with regulations of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) & Department of State (DOS), and Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
  • Work with other administrative offices and academic departments regarding admission, enrollment, retention, academic progress & employment of international students
  • Develop and foster relationships with faculty and staff for the purpose of supporting international students and scholars, as well as WORLD's overarching goals of campus internationalization
  • Collaborate with multiple departments to apply for, bring in, house, and support Fulbright Scholars, ALLEX Fellows, and other visiting scholars and researchers for the purpose of augmenting and improving the academic experience of all Stetson students
  • Provide prompt and accurate information services regarding international students and compliance regulations as needed to Stetson faculty, staff, administrators, and off campus partnering agencies with a focus on customer service
  • Educate students on the regulations and process for applying for Optional Practical Training (OPT) and Curricular Practical Training (CPT)
  • Manage and maintain compliance with regards to international student insurance requirements
  • Expand a resource center for international students as well as update and publish the International Student Handbook
  • Provide ongoing faculty development in all areas of international learning through WORLD Class lunch and learns and other such workshops and webinars
  • Develop and present reports on activities related to student/scholar performance to facilitate excellent attention to academic progress
  • Supervise student workers
  • Lead and assist with major projects and events at the WORLD Center, such as International Education Week, World fair, and orientations
  • Participate in maintaining budgets as needed
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the WORLD center to develop center's short and long-term goals and strategic initiatives
  • Participate in campus-wide committees, division-wide meetings, initiatives, projects, programs, and tasks as appropriate
  • Participate in professional development endeavors through membership with NAFSA and other professional associations in order to stay up-to-date on regulations and trends in international education
  • Support the WORLD Director
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evening and weekend hours
  • Serve as back-up on-call for emergencies
  • Perform other site and position specific functions as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

The knowledge, skills, and abilities for this role include:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with individuals from a myriad of ethnic, cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Detail oriented
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (oral, written, listening)
  • Demonstrated skill with computers for electronic communication, word processing, database management, marketing, etc.

Required Qualifications:

This position requires:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Must meet Department of Homeland Security requirements to become, and serve as, a Primary Designated School Official (PDSO). In accordance with Department of Homeland Security regulations, a PDSO/DSO must be either a citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States.
  • At least 1-2 years of progressively responsible experience with student services/success
  • Previous experience working with students and scholars in a higher education setting
  • Experience establishing and maintaining relationships with faculty, administrators, and members of the local and global community

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

  • Master's degree preferred

Pay Grade: 5
