Lake Tahoe Community College is recruiting for a coordinator trainee for the Intensive Spanish Summer Institute (ISSI) for Summer 2026, who will move into the full coordinator role in Summer 2027.

The successful candidate will meet the minimum qualifications to teach Spanish.

The ISSI Program brings diverse individuals from across the state and beyond to participate in a week of Spanish Language, Grammar and Cultural education. Participants in the program often return year-after-year, moving through beginning to advanced classes.

Compensation for the training period will be between $5,229 and $6,474, dependent upon the number of weeks needed for training. Additionally, accommodations are provided in South Lake Tahoe for one day prior to and throughout the duration of ISSI week. Per diems are also paid to the trainee for food and mileage, based upon IRS and contractual rates.

Upon completion of the training period, the successful candidate will move into the coordinator role starting in September 2026. Compensation for the coordinator of the program is set at $12,075, paid across four quarter terms, amounts vary per term and are reflective of the workload involved for that period, with the highest workload occurring during the summer term. Additionally, accommodations are provided in South Lake Tahoe for two days prior to and throughout the duration of ISSI week. Per diems are also paid to the coordinator for food and mileage, based upon IRS and contractual rates.

The duties for the training period are as follows:

  • Shadow the current coordinator of the ISSI program.
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings once or twice per month with the Dean of Instruction and Coordinator as part of ISSI planning. The number of meetings per month is contingent upon the planning process for ISSI.
  • Learn the course curricula that is part of the ISSI program.
  • Learn the coordination with LTCC employees required to make ISSI a success.
  • Learn the job duties of the coordinator as listed below in preparation to take over the program in starting in September 2026.

Under the direction of the Dean, coordinate the academic responsibilities of the Intensive Spanish Summer Institute.

Representative Duties:Serve as the primary point of contact for both student and faculty questions about the program.

Provide quality control per course, per modality; Take responsibility for curriculum associated with the program: oversight of Title 5 updates, new courses, and special topics.

Assist the dean in coordinating, scheduling, staffing, training, onboarding and supporting ISSI academic employees:

  • Adjunct faculty in Core Courses
  • Adjunct faculty in Mini-Courses
  • Conversation leaders and aides

Work with the Instruction Office and the Dean to track for academic employees

Complete, as required:

  • Annual Program Reviews and Budget Requests
  • Collaborate on the development of program updates
  • Maintain Student Learning Outcome and Course Currency
  • Create new courses as necessary

Support selection of books and classroom materials

Coordinates with staff and faculty for the distribution of all student materials

Explore program development opportunities and outcomes.

Refer students to pre- and post-ISSI courses and opportunities

Review surveys for prior ISSIs and implement recommended improvements for next year. Work with Institutional Effectiveness to develop survey instruments.

Employment Standards:

  • Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges, Title V Regulations, requires that the instructor must demonstrate that they satisfy minimum qualifications for Foreign Languages.

AND

  • Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic, ethnic backgrounds, and disabilities of community college students and staff.

Knowledge of:

  • Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge in the subject matter.
  • Interpersonal skills required to work with diverse faculty and programs.

Ability to:

  • Maintain a positive and professional relationship with students, adjuncts, community members and staff.
  • Analyze situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action.
  • Demonstrate commitment to professional excellence and continuous growth within subject field.
  • Utilize culturally responsive teaching and pedagogy to support students.
  • Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic, ethnic backgrounds, and disabilities of community college students and staff.
