IT Support Specialist III

Job Description

Essential Functions

The Specialist will need to integrate into the college they are supporting, as well as the Information Technology Services Department. The Specialist must provide technical support and troubleshoot any IT related issues. This will include tasks such as installing software, maintaining audio/video equipment, designing local area networks for various instruments, system diagnostics, and assisting colleges with instrumentation, simulation equipment, biomechanics, or other types of lab deployments and maintenance.

The Specialist helps in resolving technical issues within different components of equipment, computer systems, such as software, hardware, and other network-related IT related problems. The Specialist should be highly skilled in fixing any technical problems, including network configuration, and take responsibility for all technical issues. The Specialist should have experience working with different operating systems (Windows, Linux or Mac OS), an extensive understanding of computer systems, networks, mobile devices, and other technological equipment, along with expertise in LAN/WAN, and knowledge of scripting languages (i.e. PHP, PowerShell, VBS, Perl, Python or BASH), among others.

  1. Install and configure computer applications.
  2. Monitor and maintain computer networks.
  3. Configure operating systems.
  4. Assist with identifying and purchasing software and IT products
  5. Manages software life cycles of specialty applications
  6. Possess the ability to learn and work on changing and emerging technologies.
  7. Install new hardware and software on specialty equipment and perform upgrades as necessary.
  8. Perform operational checks on equipment, interface with equipment manufacturers, consult with technical support, and oversee maintenance.
  9. Interact with clients through phone calls, emails, or chats and provide unambiguously written instructions or technical manuals.
  10. Maintain procedural documents and reports.
  11. Document technical knowledge in the knowledge database.
  12. Maintain client confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree.
  2. Two years of relevant experience.
  3. Relevant education that is a proper substitute for the Two years' experience may be considered.
  4. Relevant experience that is a proper substitute for the bachelor's degree may be considered.
  5. Must have a car and valid driver's license. Travel between campuses is required.

  1. High technical skill is highly preferred and important for applicants to have.

Conditions of Employment

Schedule

Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 - 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.

Standard Working Conditions

  1. Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
  2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.
  3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.
  4. Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.
  5. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
  6. Standard working conditions may differ depending on department and occupation
