Junior Onderzoeker in Surveyprojecten Sociologie
Tilburg University is seeking a Junior Researcher (0.8 - 1.0 FTE) to support large-scale data collection projects, including the European Social Survey, European Values Study, World Values Survey, and International Social Survey Programme, as well as the Infra4NextGen project.
The Department of Sociology at Tilburg University manages several large-scale data projects where you will provide support:
- The European Social Survey: A biennial cross-national survey on political and social attitudes, opinions, and behavior, involving about 30 European countries since 2002. The current round (12; 2025/2026) uses a mixed-mode method including face-to-face interviews and online or paper questionnaires.
- The European Values Study: A cross-national survey every nine years since 1981, examining values, norms, and opinions of European citizens. Tilburg University coordinates the Dutch data collection and is involved in the overall organization. Preparations for EVS2026 are underway.
- The International Social Survey Programme: A global annual survey in over 40 countries, with a focus on a specific theme each year; in 2026, the theme is the 'role of government'.
A key goal is translating data for a broader audience, such as through the Infra4NextGen project, a Horizon Europe project using infrastructures like ESS, EVS, and ISSP to support the NextGenerationEU program. Tilburg University is developing the E-NextGen Tool, an interactive visualization tool based on survey data.
As a Junior Researcher, you will assist with these projects, including translating, editing, and testing questionnaires; communicating with partners; processing incoming data; and contributing to the development of the E-NextGen tool. There may also be opportunities to contribute to research outputs like scientific reports, articles, or blogs.
You will work closely with a team of senior and junior researchers and interns.
Requirements:
- A master's degree in the social sciences.
- Good knowledge and experience with quantitative research (preferably survey research) and statistical software such as SPSS, Stata, and/or R.
- Proficiency in Dutch and English at an academic level (CEFR C2 for Dutch and C1 for English).
- Strong communication skills, hands-on approach, and ability to work well in a team. You will work in an international team on large-scale projects.
- Open to feedback, flexible, and able to switch between various tasks and projects.
Employment conditions:
- Contract for 0.8-1.0 FTE (32-40 hours per week).
- Salary between €3,546 and €5,538 gross per month for a full-time position (UFO profile Researcher 4, scale 10).
- Temporary position funded by external sources, with a contract up to 25 months, ending on February 29, 2028.
- 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
- Over 8 weeks of vacation.
- Hybrid working with allowances for home office and internet.
- Reimbursements for sustainable commuting.
- Options for additional leave, pension, bike, or training.
- Relocation allowance (under conditions).
- 30% ruling for international staff (if applicable).

- Extensive training opportunities.
- Inclusive work culture on a green campus with good public transport access.
