Junior Project Manager
Job Details
The Jr. Project Manager is responsible for overseeing projects and assisting other project managers with planning, coordinating project tasks, tracking progress, and updating stakeholders.
Interact with cross-functional teams, including designers, engineers, and client representatives, to ensure that the project's objectives are met. Oversees construction activities and field personnel as required to complete the project safely, on time, and within budget. Florida Tech is a growing, top-ranked university with over 2,000,000 square feet of facilities.
This is an exempt position. Working hours Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm.
Job Responsibilities:
- Act as the university's on-site representative, supervising contractors, trades, and vendors to ensure safety, quality, and schedule adherence.
- Oversee and lead all on-site crew to review tasks, risks, and campus-specific protocols (e.g., pedestrian traffic, noise, windows near classrooms).
- Perform routine walk-throughs, document deficiencies, and coordinate corrective actions with contractors before formal inspections. Lead pre-punch and punch list walks, ensuring timely completion before occupancy, and verify that marked-up drawings and operation and maintenance manuals are received, complete, and accurate.
- Provide field insight and rough-order-of-magnitude (ROM) estimates; when scope changes arise, help negotiate fair pricing or future planning.
- Ensure contractor safety plans align with Florida Tech's Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) policies and that university standards are followed.
- Organize and maintain project records, schedules, and correspondence in digital project management systems. Track milestones, critical paths, and deliverables to ensure timely completion.
- Attend meetings regarding projects' status, schedule, etc., to communicate with appropriate stakeholders.
- Relay project challenges and impacts to the schedule, etc.
- Emergency preparedness and support as directed.
- Additional Duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- 30-hour OSHA General Industry certification - preferred
- Must have a valid Florida driver’s license and maintain a good driving record as determined by Florida Tech guidelines.
- Minimum 5–8 years of experience required in area of expertise.
- Must be able to understand and interpret blueprints/ specifications
- Institutional construction experience is preferred
- Computer skills (Microsoft Office suite, Project Management, Procure)
