- Salary Package: From $86,087 (HEW Level 5) per annum, plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading.

Macquarie University is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Laboratory Operations Support Officer to support the day-to-day operations of its PC2 research laboratories within the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences (FMHHS).
This role plays a critical part in ensuring our laboratories operate safely, efficiently, and to the highest regulatory standards. Working closely with researchers, students, and the Lab Operations team, you will provide essential operational, technical, and logistical support that enables high-quality biomedical research across diverse and impactful fields.

About the Role
Reporting to the Research Operations Manager, the Laboratory Operations Support Officer supports the effective operation of Macquarie University’s PC2 research laboratories by providing practical, operational, and technical assistance.
Key responsibilities include:- Assisting with the coordination and delivery of laboratory inductions and access compliance.
- Providing day-to-day operational and basic technical support across laboratory facilities and equipment.
- Maintaining laboratory readiness through organisation, documentation, and coordination of servicing and repairs.
- Supporting safety, chemical handling, waste disposal, and compliance activities, including audits and inspections.
- Working collaboratively with researchers, students, contractors, and facility teams to ensure smooth laboratory operations.
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance workflows, efficiency, and equipment use.

Key Selection Criteria
- A degree in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of qualifications and experience,
- Demonstrated experience supporting laboratory operations, ideally within a PC2 environment,
- Strong knowledge of workplace health and safety principles, including chemical handling and waste management,
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities,
- A collaborative, service-focused approach with strong communication and interpersonal skills,
- Experience providing basic equipment technical support or training on laboratory facilities, and
- Sound understanding of manual handling techniques and safe work practices.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in histology techniques, e.g., tissue embedding, cutting, and staining; and optimisation of protocols.
Other Specific Requirements:
