Laboratory Technician
Position Summary:
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Laboratory Technician within the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at the Rutgers Cancer Institute.
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Lab Technician performs and assists with technical laboratory procedures and analyses in support of specialized research activities of the laboratory, including flow cytometry, chemiluminescence analysis, and single molecule analysis of replicated DNA. The individual also assists in the set-up and conducting of experiments as required. Additionally, this position performs other related laboratory duties as required.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Assists in packing, unpacking, storing, and classification of lab supplies and specimens.
- Performs standard laboratory procedures involved in making required tests and analyses.
- Assists in preparing culture media, reagents, stains, and stock solutions.
- Assists with experimentation and research activities, including working with mice.
- Assists with the maintenance of the Laboratory facilities, equipment, and instruments.
- Maintains accurate records of experimentation and research.
- Reviews selected literature relevant to research activities.
- Prepares reports, documents, and databases.
- Helps maintain records, files, and databases.
- Understands and adheres to Rutgers' compliance standards as they appear in RBHS's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy. Understands, demonstrates and models the Rutgers Cancer Institute core values.
- Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Rutgers's compliance standards as they appear in RBHS's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Interest policy.
- Acts as a role model for corporate integrity, customer service and improved quality.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Associate's Degree in a relevant science.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing.
- No special vision requirements.
- Lifting up to 25 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Laboratory work environment, with moderate noise.
- Exposure to biological specimens (cells, blood, tissues etc.) with possible exposure to infectious diseases, exposure to hazardous chemicals including therapeutic drugs.
- Laboratory environment operates under mandatory universal safety precaution.
