Lead Business Intelligence Specialist
Position Information
The Lead Business Intelligence (BI) Specialist develops data visualizations and dashboards using analytics tools (primarily Google Looker) that give the campus insights into our business operations, student success, and more. The position will require the BI Specialist to have a broad and deep perspective on data needs for each unique group of end users to develop scalable analytics and provide data in a way that can inform decision-making in both the present and the future. The BI Specialist needs to be mindful of how to effectively present data to ease end user understanding of the data and allow them to quickly find insights in it. The individual will perform exploratory data analysis to identify data trends and anomalies, finding insights the users may be interested in. They will also be required to analyze data integrity issues and work with data engineers and data stewards to resolve issues and provide proactive monitoring of quality. The position consults with data stewards to gather and clarify data definitions for highly complex business intelligence solutions and analytics. The BI Specialist also ensures that all reporting and development processes and standards are adhered to during the entire data request lifecycle. This position will also serve as a technical lead on the team with deep knowledge of our tools, best practices, and semantic modeling. They will provide guidance and support to other team members as required.
This position is classified as predominantly remote with occasional visits to campus as needed. Working hours will be based on Pacific Standard Time (PST).
The full salary range for the Lead Business Intelligence Specialist is $93,200 - $174,200 annually. However, the pay scale for this position is up to $130,000 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.
Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, UCR is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.
As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.

- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Required

This includes secure handling of physical and digital records and proper usage of IT systems to prevent data leaks. The unauthorized or improper disclosure of confidential work-related information obtained from any source on any work-related matter is a violation of these expectations. Required
Minimum Requirements
- In-depth knowledge of business intelligence functions, advanced analytics, industry standards and best practices.
- Advanced knowledge and skill in internal databases, BI applications, tools, and systems.
- Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage highly-complex information, assess problems, and develop effective solutions.
- Advanced organizational and project management skills.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex information in a clear, concise manner. Ability to produce and deliver presentations to diverse audiences.
- Advanced interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with managers, professional and technical staff.
- Ability to serve as an advanced technical leader providing advice, counsel, and analysis on business intelligence issues.
- Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team.
- Working knowledge of business intelligence technologies such as Looker, PowerBI, Cognos, SPSS, Tableau, etc.
- Working knowledge of Financial reporting, in particular from Oracle Fusion ERP (finance, procurement).
- Working knowledge of Oracle Fusion data model, including the Business Intelligence Cloud Connector (BICC) extracts/Business Intelligence Standard views (PVOs)
Key Responsibilities
- Applies advanced skills to produce in-depth forecasts, advanced statistical quantitative analyses, complex reports, data sets, and recommendations to support and enhance business/clinical processes. Works on large projects with many data streams.
