Purpose:

The successful candidate will coordinate the Higher Education work at the Center for Reading Science and support other Center work. The candidate may also teach in our Reading Science graduate or doctoral programs. This position is a term position (not tenure-track) and is grant funded through the summer of 2025.

Duties:

The Center for Reading Science at Mount St. Joseph University invites applications for a full-time (12-month) Higher Education Coordinator position. The position will begin as soon as June 2024. The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree in reading or a related field and a strong understanding and background in the science of reading. They will coordinate our higher education projects at the Center for Reading Science. They may also support other Center work and/or teach in our Reading Science graduate or doctoral programs. This position is a term position (not tenure-track) and is grant funded through the summer of 2025.

 

 

 

Qualifications

The successful candidate should hold a doctorate in reading or related fields (ABD candidates are welcome to apply), have experience in higher education teaching, and have experience teaching reading to students in grades pre-K -12. Requirements include experience preparing teacher candidates and practitioners in evidence-based reading practices, experience working with diverse students, families, and schools, research publications/presentations, and a proven undergraduate and/or graduate teaching record.

Expectations:

The candidate will be coordinating the higher education work at the Center for Reading Science. They will be working with teacher preparation programs to revise their reading coursework to align with the science of reading. Responsibilities include:

Creating and delivering training on the science of reading in teacher preparation.

Providing feedback on course syllabi and program plans.

Consulting with faculty on the science of reading in teacher preparation.

Creating tools and materials to support implementation of the science of reading in teacher preparation.

Coordinating service plans and contracts for higher education institutions interested in working with the Center in collaboration with Center directors and staff.

Engaging in strategic planning for the Center of Reading Science

Demonstrating an ability and commitment towards diversity, equity, and inclusion
