SUMMARY:
The Leadership Giving Officer advances the University of Richmond’s strategic priorities by:
- Identifying and qualifying prospective donors
- Soliciting and securing philanthropic gifts in the four- and five-figure range
- Strengthening the donor pipeline for future major and principal giving
This position manages a portfolio of rated prospects primarily located in the Midwest U.S. and Southeastern Virginia. Key metropolitan areas include (but are not limited to) Chicago, St. Louis, the “3Cs” of Ohio (Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati), and Hampton Roads, VA. The Leadership Giving Officer will be responsible for meeting annual performance metrics and contributing to team-wide fundraising goals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proven success in soliciting and closing four- and five-figure philanthropic gifts
- Strong judgment and discretion, with an understanding of, or willingness to learn, ethical principles in higher education fundraising
- High level of professionalism and integrity
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse constituencies
- Collaborative and team-oriented mindset, with a commitment to collegiality, honesty, and transparency
- Strong organizational and analytical skills, with a sense of humor appreciated
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and fundraising software (e.g., CRM/database systems)
- Willingness and ability to maintain a robust travel schedule
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Minimum of three years of experience in fundraising or a comparable role, with a strong track record of success in donor engagement and gift solicitation
- Experience in higher education fundraising is preferred
WORK SCHEDULE:
- Standard hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with extended hours as needed
- Occasional evening and weekend work required (e.g., Charter Associate events, Homecoming, Reunion)
- Frequent travel expected
SALARY STRUCTURE:
Pay Grade 7 Hiring Range: $55,640 to $82,784 annually, commensurate with experience
Job title will be commensurate with experience (Assistant Director, Associate Director, or Sr. Associate Director of Leadership Giving).
This position is based onsite at the University of Richmond. While primarily in-person, there may be opportunities for a hybrid work arrangement depending on departmental needs and individual performance.
