Job Description:
Function of Position:
The Assistant Director of Donor Engagement is responsible for planning, supporting, and executing events, and for strengthening donor and alumni engagement in support of Monroe Community College. The successful candidate will facilitate the planning and implementation of the Foundation's signature fundraising events and play a key role in identifying and engaging alumni and community leaders whose participation elevates the visibility and success of these events. Reporting to the Associate Vice President, the Assistant Director of Donor Engagement is part of a dynamic team that works to enhance private philanthropic support for MCC.
This is a temporary position that may be renewed annually, contingent upon the availability of college budget and performance reviews. This position is eligible for paid time off and benefits.
Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
Primary Functions
- Plan and execute the Foundation's signature fundraising events, including the Gold Star Gala, Scholarship Open, and Salute to Excellence, with specific fundraising, donor development, and stewardship goals.
- Proactively solicit and secure individual and corporate sponsorships in collaboration with the Development team, building strategies that maximize event revenue and strengthen donor partnerships.
- Oversee additional events such as the 5K Walk/Run for Scholarships, Optics Clambake, and President's Circle Dinner, providing guidance to team members to ensure successful execution and donor stewardship.
- Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Communications on event invitations, scripting, student speaker highlights, and the promotion of events across social media, web and other channels.
- Recruit, cultivate, and engage alumni and community leaders to serve on event committees, ensuring their participation adds esteem to the events and drives fundraising success.
- Work with the Foundation Board, staff, and committees to identify and solicit individual and corporate underwriting support.
- Serve as staff liaison to assigned board committees; support and manage committee meetings, provide direction for staff and volunteers, and generate regular updates and progress reports.
- Participate as a full member of the Foundation's advancement team, including professional development activities and staff meetings.
- All other duties as assigned.
Secondary Functions
- Participate in the planning and development of annual fundraising goals and objectives; prepare and manage annual budgets for assigned projects.
- Prepare and analyze reports of activities and programs; track and monitor pledges, gifts, and special events results.
- Develop and recommend policies, procedures, and standards to enhance special events and alumni engagement.
- Work with the Development team to create strategies that strengthen donor and alumni relations with the Foundation.

Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- Earned bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Three or more years' experience in a comprehensive development program including stewardship/donor relations, event management, non-profit fundraising or related responsibilities.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to create efficient systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Superior computer skills, including high proficiency in: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; expected to learn and use the database and reporting software program for development (Raiser's Edge).
- Detail-oriented, energetic self-starter with a positive and enthusiastic outlook.
- Vision to plan ahead, take initiative and set and adhere to deadlines.
- Ability to multi-task and to work collaboratively with a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work with a diverse audience of alumni and donors.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Earned master's degree in nonprofit management, development or related field from an accredited institution.
- Experience managing vendors and donor relationships.
- Experience in budget and volunteer management.
- Development experience with increasing responsibilities in an academic setting or with a public entity.
- Experience with social media and other web-related communication tools.
- Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently
Additional Information:
Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity and college budget. This position has a range of $65,000 to $75,000 and is based on these mentioned factors.
Working Environment:
The MCC Foundation is located at 321 State Street, Rochester, New York.
This position is highly mobile within the Rochester region and requires reliable personal transportation.
This position functions primarily during normal business hours, with occasional evening and weekend activities.
Travel outside the immediate Rochester area is typically confined to attendance at professional conferences and meetings 1-2/year.
In addition, travel outside the immediate Rochester area for prospect visits should be expected.
MCC offers a Flexible Work Policy for benefit eligible employees. Types of flexible work arrangements include flextime/staggered shifts, remote work/telecommuting and compressed work schedule. The availability of flexible work arrangements varies by division, department, and position, based upon business and operational needs. Limitations to flexible work arrangements are outlined in the official policy.
Prohibition of Remote Work Outside New York State: Remote work locations outside New York State are not authorized by the College due to out-of-state tax and regulatory implications. In limited circumstances, prompted by business or operational needs, the College may approve requests to work remotely outside of New York State, on a short term, temporary basis.
