Learning Data Analyst

Stanford’s Online High School is an accredited, diploma-offering, highly selective independent high school, offering courses for grades 7-12. The mission of Stanford Online High School (OHS) is to foster a worldwide community of intellectually adventurous students and teachers. Our courses, created and taught by specialists in their academic fields, encourage students to continuously develop and test their own views as they integrate knowledge across disciplines. Small class sizes and synchronous class meetings populated by curious and engaged classmates and teachers make learning a meaningful and social experience. Students form close bonds with each other and with the school community through classes, clubs, meetups, and other school activities, all supported by caring educators. Stanford Online High School is also the home of Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies (SPCS), which provides a diverse array of academic enrichment programs that take place mostly in the summer but also throughout the academic year. Held both online and on-campus, SPCS programs serve intellectually curious pre-college students from around the world.

Stanford Online High School offices are located at the Stanford Redwood City Campus, however this position will be performed completely online and requires you to have the ability, technology, and appropriate tools to successfully perform all job duties online. You must be located within the United States of America and be available to travel to the campus up to five times per year for important in-person events.

The Learning Data Analyst is responsible for the end-to-end development of OHS’s data analytics capabilities, including software creation, strategic reporting and data automations. You will design and build solutions to aggregate data from disparate educational platforms—including SIS, Canvas, and Adobe Connect—into a unified data warehouse using APIs and custom Python scripts. From this data, you will create descriptive and predictive models, producing compelling visualizations and web-based reports that allow our student support teams to track student progress. Your work will provide the critical insights needed to enhance online instruction, identify at-risk students, and ultimately measure the success of the school's vision.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Design and deliver data visualizations and custom reports using Tableau and other platforms to help OHS Student Support teams in identifying performance trends and engaging at-risk students early.
  • Develop web based reports based on data from different data sources like Adobe Connect, Canvas, Powerschool utilizing custom built python scripts and python libraries in support of educational pedagogy in synchronous and asynchronous online classes.
  • Build software solutions to pull data via API/web services from various platforms (SIS, Canvas, Adobe Connect) into data warehouses, and produce web-based graphs and charts for accessible end-user reporting.
  • Build data automations that increase efficiency in onboarding students and staff into the school utilizing API/web services from various platforms (SIS, Canvas, Adobe Connect).
  • Build and maintain platforms that consolidate data from multiple sources, supporting the creation of aggregated reports. Use methods of data analytics to build both descriptive as well as predictive data analytics models.
  • Analyze platform data to recommend analytics strategies and create reports to visualize and track student progress during their time at OHS with the ultimate goal of tracking the success of the school’s vision.
  • Develop Software that benefits Online Classroom Pedagogy and Instruction.
  • Test prototype software and participate in the approval and release process for new software.
  • Respond to complex technical issues reported on various OHS and SPCS related software platforms. Work with instructors and students reporting the issue on gathering material (for example logs) to support the issue. Collaborate with vendors in identifying and resolving problems efficiently.

To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience. Experience in a quantitative discipline such as economics, finance, statistics, engineering or education.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience using and applying analytical software, database management system software, database reporting software, database user interface and query software, and data mining software.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect data using a variety of methods, such as data mining and hardcopy or electronic documentation study, to improve or expand databases.
  • Intermediate statistical ability.
  • Ability to develop complex software in JavaScript and Python based on requirements.
  • Experience in working with LLMs in a software development context.
  • Strong listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple activities in a deadline-oriented environment; highly organized, flexible, and rigorous attention to detail.
  • Ability to use logic to calculate data; efficiently construct a database or scrutinize the form of a question.
  • Ability to work with data of varying levels of quality and validity.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce data in a clear and understandable manner meeting user requirements.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex technical issues and working with vendors in resolving the issues.
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple internal and external customers.
  • Ability to take a leadership role on projects and with users/clients.

In addition, preferred requirements include:

  • Advanced customer service skills.
  • Experience working in an educational environment. Ideally in a K-12 environment.
  • Experience working with instructional staff, students and parents.
  • Relevant computer systems/technology experience
  • Ability to ensure and apply compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations

Physical Requirements:

  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently sit, sort, file paperwork or parts, grasp lightly, and use fine manipulation, lift, carry, push and pull objects that weigh 10 pounds or less.
  • Occasionally write by hand, twist, bend, stoop and squat.
  • Rarely stand, walk, reach, or work above shoulders and use a telephone.

This role is open to candidates anywhere in the United States. Stanford University has five Regional Pay Structures. The compensation for this position will be based on the location of the successful candidate.

The expected pay range for this position is $108,002 - $128,138 per annum for the Stanford Work Location, and $75,752 - $104,385 per annum for Remote (all other regions).
