About the Role:

The Learning & User Experience Designer is a key member of the Faculty of Humanities Digital Projects Team, partnering with academic and professional staff to design, develop, and continuously enhance high-quality digital learning experiences. Aligned with Curtin’s Strategic Plan 2030 and the Humanities Learning Futures Platforms, the role integrates learning design and user experience practices to create accessible, inclusive, and engaging learning environments for diverse student cohorts. This position combines evidence-informed pedagogy, universal design principles, and emerging technologies—including generative AI—to support contemporary teaching practices across the Faculty.

You will lead discovery and design activities, translating stakeholder needs into practical, scalable learning solutions. Working collaboratively across projects, you will ensure digital products are intuitive, effective, and aligned with user and institutional goals. Through iterative design, evaluation, and continuous improvement, you will strengthen the Faculty’s capability to deliver consistent, student-centred learning experiences across digital platforms. This includes applying UX methodologies—such as user research, journey mapping, prototyping, and usability testing—to inform design decisions and enhance the effectiveness of learning resources and tools.

The role contributes to fostering an innovative, inclusive, and technologically enabled learning environment that supports improved student engagement and success.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Apply user experience (UX) principles to design intuitive, accessible, and engaging digital learning experiences that support positive learner outcomes.
  • Lead the design and delivery of complex digital courses, using effective project management practices to ensure timely, high-quality outcomes.
  • Design and facilitate training programs, and develop resources to build digital capability across the Faculty, enabling staff to confidently use learning technologies.
  • Monitor emerging trends in digital education and learning design, and apply innovative approaches to enhance course design and delivery.
  • Partner with academic staff to conduct needs analysis, define learning outcomes, develop assessment strategies, and select instructional approaches aligned with best practice pedagogy.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to produce high-quality, media-rich learning resources, including interactive content, video, and audio materials.
  • Work autonomously while contributing to a collaborative team environment, building strong relationships and maintaining clear, effective communication across the University.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and integrity, consistently modelling the University’s values and expected behaviours.
  • Undertake additional duties as reasonably required, consistent with the scope and responsibilities of the role.

Role Requirements:

  1. As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia to be considered
  2. Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin’s satisfaction
