Primary Purpose of the Organization:
The Department of English is vigorous, innovative in its core and program offerings, invested in student engagement, and embracing current trends. The department offers degree programs in English Language and Literature; Creative & Professional Writing; Pre-Law; and Secondary Teaching (9-12), as well as minors in English, writing, and TESOL.
Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Department of English invites applications for a renewable one year, fixed-term position at the rank of Lecturer/Adjunct Assistant Professor scheduled to begin in Fall 2026. The primary purpose of the position will be to teach courses in the core as well as major programs offered by the Department of English. The chosen candidate will primarily be teaching composition with occasional courses in creative writing, including memoir, poetry, children’s literature, short prose fiction, and creative nonfiction.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Lecturer: a Master’s degree in English or a master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the discipline.
- Adjunct Assistant Professor: a terminal degree (e.g., Ph.D).
- At least two years of teaching experience at the college level.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with students, faculty, and staff at the university.
Knowledge skills and abilities:
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to teach a variety of courses aligned with department and university needs. Experience teaching both online and face-to-face courses. Experience with online course development and instruction in Canvas or other online learning management systems. Experience in working with diverse student populations, including first-generation college students, distance learners, and adult learners. Experience with core and program assessment and program review.
