Northern Arizona University - Yuma Branch Campus is conducting a search to fill a Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor (non-tenure), academic year generalist position in Criminal Justice Administration. This position is expected to be continuing with potential for promotion. Renewal is contingent on performance, continued funding and departmental needs.
The Yuma Branch Campus of Northern Arizona University is located on the grounds of Arizona Western College, the local community college, in Yuma, AZ. About the Position
Northern Arizona University - Yuma Branch Campus is conducting a search to fill a Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor (non-tenure), academic year generalist position in Criminal Justice Administration. This position is expected to be continuing with potential for promotion. Renewal is contingent on performance, continued funding and departmental needs.
The primary focus of this position is to teach upper-division criminal justice courses for the Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration program at the Yuma campus, as well as online. A strong connection to the discipline of Criminal Justice is expected. The program aims to provide students with a professional education that prepares them to work or pursue graduate education in the fields of criminal justice. Community engagement and real-world experience are encouraged to help students develop the necessary, practical, and critical thinking skills needed in law enforcement, corrections, the courts, and community corrections. The position requires participation in teaching, service, and professional development activities. Courses may include fieldwork, those aligned with the successful applicant's areas of expertise, and classes that meet departmental needs. A successful annual review will be based on demonstrated engagement with the discipline, positive teaching evaluations, and service to the department.
Minimum Qualifications
Lecturer
- A master's degree in criminology, criminal justice, justice studies, or a closely related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment.
- The equivalent of one year (2 semesters) of college or university level teaching (at least 6 credit hours per semester)
- Ability to teach in person and online (synchronous and asynchronous).
Assistant Teaching Professor
- A doctoral degree in criminology, criminal justice, justice studies, or a closely related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment.
- The equivalent of one year (2 semesters) of college or university level teaching (at least 6 credit hours per semester)
- Ability to teach in person and online (synchronous and asynchronous).
*A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Qualifications.*
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability and willingness to teach undergraduate courses for the major, possible courses including Introduction to Crime and Justice, the Courts, Justice and the Media, Law Enforcement Administration, Corrections, Criminology, and Senior Capstone.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching remote courses to complement face-to-face instruction.
- Practical experience working with criminal justice or juvenile justice agencies.
- Proficiency in elementary Spanish.

Compensation
Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check.
