A Ph.D. in Criminal Justice/Criminology or a related discipline is required, but ABDs will not be considered.
A J.D. is not sufficient for this position.

The areas of expertise for the position are open to all subfields, but the preferred candidate will be a generalist with experience teaching a variety of core courses in the discipline and have an appropriate record of scholarship.

Description of the Department or Unit
The Department of Government and Justice Studies (GJS) is home to over 900 undergraduate majors in criminal justice and political science and over 60 graduate students in political science and public administration. It has more than 30 full-time faculty who are at the forefront of their diverse areas of expertise and are amongst the most honored teachers at Appalachian State University. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The teaching load is 3 courses per semester for faculty with an active research agenda. Teaching assignments will be predominantly in-person classes to serve Appalachian State's Boone Campus; however, opportunities for instruction at App State's Hickory campus or online instruction may be available depending on program need.
