About the Position:

The successful applicant will function with the principles of CI including: commitment to student participation in the learning process; spirit of collegiality and collaboration; excellence in teaching; and experience working in a multiethnic, multilingual, and multicultural environment. The successful candidate will plan, develop and teach pre-licensure Nursing Science classes in the clinical setting and the campus skills lab at the CSU's Goleta campus. To carry out other duties associated with lecturer responsibilities to include but not limited to: maintaining accurate student records/clinical grades, coordinating clinical instruction with other faculty; coordinating student experiences with clinical personnel; maintaining communications between the University and clinical agencies including participation in annual summation meetings; participating in curriculum development; participating in CCNE and BRN accreditation activities; participating in curriculum excellence by remaining current in the subject matter and techniques of effective instruction through recent clinical experience and professional development. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: teaching and office hours. Assignment may include day, evening, night, and weekend classes/clinical labs.

Minimum Degree Requirements:

A Masters degree in nursing or higher from an accredited college or university which includes courses in nursing education.

Required Qualifications:

  • The successful candidate will possess leadership in teaching of baccalaureate level nursing and BRN content area, as well as teaching and student learning outcomes evaluation. Possession of a current active California RN license; at least one year experience teaching courses related to medical surgical nursing or a course that includes practice in teaching nursing; at least two years continuous full time experience in direct patient care practice as an RN and at least one year of continuous full time experience in direct patient care practice as an RN within the last 3 years or eligibility for the Board of Registered Nurses approval to teach medical surgical nursing.
  • As a condition of employment, this position will require a background check. The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
  • Must have current, unrestricted CA RN License
  • Applicants should demonstrate the commitment to effectively work with and engage a diverse student population and evidence of how they would successfully mentor minoritized students with special focus on Latinx, Black/African American, American Indian, and Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander students.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to teach in medical surgical nursing areas such as critical care, emergency room, telemetry, medical nursing units, surgical nursing units, and outpatient settings. Excellent communication and collaborative skills. Flexibility in teaching assignments. Experience with using multiple teaching modalities in a population that includes a wide variety of multicultural learners. Willingness to teach on weekends, evenings and/or nights.

Compensation:

California State University Lecturer Salary (Academic Year) Schedules can be found at Range 2, Range 3, Range 4, Range 5. Placement into a range is based on qualifications and experience. Initial assignments are typically at the bottom third of the salary range.
