This posting establishes a pool of candidates to fill non-tenure track lecturer positions to teach one or more undergraduate or graduate level course(s) as needed in the Computer Science and Engineering Department on a part-time semester-by-semester basis for AY26/27. Courses will vary from term to term. This position is paid on a per-course basis. Assignments are dependent upon student enrollments. The department is interested in experienced software engineering professionals to teach undergraduate security courses, undergraduate level discrete structures and graduate level software engineering courses. There are no travel and relocation expenses available.

Lecturer

What you will do:

  • Teach one to three classes as assigned per term.
  • Prepare for each class session and deliver balanced, rigorous lessons via Canvas and Zoom in accordance with prescribed curricular objectives and outcomes.
  • Hold weekly office hours as appropriate per course allocation.
  • Assess student progress according to curricular objectives and adhere to program policies.
  • Record attendance and grades online and be accessible for communication with students.

Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • A Master of Science degree in computer science or a related field is required for teaching undergraduate level courses. A combination of a bachelor's degree and 5 years of directly related experience may be substituted for the master's degree.
  • A PhD degree in computer science or related fields is required for teaching graduate level courses. A combination of a master's degree and 5 years of related experience may be substituted for the PhD.

Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Candidates with teaching experience in the higher education environment are preferred.
  • Candidates with research or industrial experience in a related discipline are preferred.
  • Candidates residing within proximity to campus are preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to integrate academic knowledge and current field practices into the classroom.
  • Ability to clearly explain complex concepts.
  • Ability to maintain an engaging, productive classroom with a diverse range of students.
  • Ability to effectively use technology in the classroom.

Conditions of Employment

  • This position follows a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely or from the office, as needed, based on demands of specific tasks or personal work preferences. Working from the office is encouraged when working on tasks that require a high degree of collaboration.
  • Occasional work during the evening may be required.

Mental, Physical, and/or Environmental Requirements

This position may be performed in a hybrid environment, requiring the ability to work effectively in a remote setting. This includes maintaining a dedicated workspace free of excessive noise or distractions, reliable internet connectivity, and the ability to participate in virtual meetings for extended periods. Employees must be able to independently manage time, remain stationary for prolonged computer-based work, and transport necessary equipment (such as a laptop and peripherals) between their remote work location and the office as needed.

The ability to lecture for full class periods, utilize white boards or similar communication methods, and ability to oversee hands-on activities.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $6500 - $7500 per 3 credit course; $3250 per 1 credit lab.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
