Job Description:

The College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity (CEHC) is the first of its kind in the nation; uniting people, technology and knowledge to address the challenges of the 21st century. ETEC is the $180M research, instructional and entrepreneurial complex in which CEHC resides, providing our faculty state of the art laboratory and teaching spaces.

CEHC seeks applicants in the Information Sciences & Technology Department for a Lecturer in Game Design & Development (GDD). The candidate will teach game design and development courses which may include but are not limited to game programming, game art, game technology, the business of games, game studies, UI/UX for games, and game design. The candidate will provide service to the University and advise students and may also facilitate graduate/undergraduate interdisciplinary research projects; lead client-based projects; and help lead co-curricular activities.

The Lecturer of Game Design & Development will play a role in shaping the academic experiences of students in the GDD major and minor. The position offers an opportunity for a dynamic educator and practitioner to contribute to a rich interdisciplinary curriculum. Ideal candidates will bring a strong foundation in game design through their teaching or training program and demonstrate a vision for contributing to the GDD program.

Functional and Supervisory Relationships:

  • Reports to Department Chair
  • May supervise employees as assigned (no direct reports at time of filling position)

Job Requirements:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in game design & development in one or more areas which may include but not limited to game programming, game art, game technology, the business of games, game studies, UI/UX for games, and game design.
  • Create engaging undergraduate curriculum in game design & development in one or more areas such as game programming, game art, game technology, the business of games, game studies, UI/UX for games, and game design.
  • Contribute to the development of curriculum of the GDD major/minor.
  • Provide regular office hours for individualized academic advising and student support for students in the GDD program, including course planning, degree progression, and referrals to university support services to address academic challenges.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A MA, MS, MFA in Game Design & Development, Information Science, English, Animation, Computer Science, Engineering or Networking, or a closely related field from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization by 8/15/2026. Candidates who will not hold the degree by this date will not be considered.
  • Three or more years of academic teaching or professional training experience.
  • An ongoing professional practice which includes any of the following: game or play-related work, commercial or indie game development or game-related asset production / technical art.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in varying modalities (in-person, online, and/or hybrid)
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A terminal degree in Game design and development, Information Science, English, Animation, Computer Science, Engineering or Networking, or a closely related field from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization by 8/15/2026.
  • Experience teaching graduate courses in game design & development such as game programming, game art, game technology, the business of games, game studies, and game design.
  • Demonstrated experience or teaching in multiple modalities (in-person, online, and/or hybrid).
  • One or more years working in the game design and development industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in collaborative, cross-disciplinary game design and/or development projects.
