Job Details
The Department of Political Science at Barnard College seeks a full-time Lecturer, specializing in American Politics and Political Theory to begin on July 1, 2026. The Lecturer position is full-time, with opportunities for review and renewal at the 3rd year and promotion (to Senior Lecturer) at the 7th year of service.
Teaching expectations include a 3/3 course load per year and advising students. Other duties include participating in service in the departmental and college levels. The successful candidate will be able to teach courses in American Politics and Political Theory, including introductory courses in both. We are particularly, but not exclusively, interested in candidates who can offer courses on topics such as the Principles and Theory of American Democracy; Constitutionalism, Constitutional Law, and other aspects of the American legal system; and data analysis and/ or research methods.
The Lecturer will also be expected to be able to offer a course in Barnard's first year seminar program, which consists of intellectually challenging and interdisciplinary courses that are designed to develop the essential skills a student needs to succeed as a Barnard student.

Required Qualifications
Candidates must have completed their PhD by the start of the 2026-2027 academic year, and have significant teaching experience. The candidate must also demonstrate appreciation for a liberal arts education, including advising and mentoring students.

- Syllabi for classes in American Politics and Political Theory, including but not limited to intro courses in both.
- Recent teaching evaluations.
