Lecturer-Sr Lecturer, NYC-Based

Lecturer-Sr Lecturer, NYC-Based

The Bronfenbrenner Center for Translational Research (BCTR) is seeking to hire a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer, that will be based in New York City (NYC), to join our team of talented and passionate professionals committed to preparing the next generation of leaders dedicated to enhancing human development, health, and well-being. The BCTR is housed within the College of Human Ecology (CHE), which is launching new courses and programming in NYC. The candidate will develop and teach courses (in person and online) and expand and provide oversight to a new internship program for undergraduate students. We are inviting applications for one (1) full-time Lecturer or Senior Lecturer position, with teaching and programmatic responsibilities beginning June 1, 2025 (or July 1, 2025; start date negotiable). This is a twelve-month position (1-3-year appointment; renewable) based in NYC, with occasional travel to the Cornell University Ithaca campus. This is not a remote or online position. The candidate will report directly to the Associate Dean of CHE in NYC.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Instructional Development & Teaching (60%)

The candidate will develop new courses and teach 3-4 courses per year. For example, the candidate may assist with and/or independently teach an internship preparation course during the spring semester, a course on human thriving in urban spaces during the summer, and an internship reflection course during the fall semester. The topics of these courses are broadly related to translational research and public health. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to developing course syllabi, maintaining Canvas course websites, developing and implementing class activities, discussions, lectures, quizzes, and exams, collaborating with Cornell Student Disability Services, and working collaboratively with other teaching faculty on additional administrative tasks as they arise.

Program Implementation (40%)

CHE has an internship program in NYC for rising juniors and seniors. This opportunity underscores our commitment to provide students with community-engaged learning experiences and professional development. Students intern at a partner site, and engage in coursework, professional development, and field trips. Partner sites represent a variety of fields (e.g., youth development, nutrition, medicine, law, administration, fashion/design). The candidate will oversee administrative responsibilities, which includes but is not limited to fundraising, identifying new partner sites, maintaining relationships with existing partner sites, updating the application portal, recruitment, and collecting and analyzing program evaluation data. The candidate will serve as the primary point of contact and lead activities when the student is not at the partner site (e.g., teach courses, professional development, and field trips). These activities will include efforts to support undergraduate students in navigating what may be an unfamiliar urban environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must hold a PhD in a Public Health discipline (e.g., social and behavioral sciences, population health), Urban Studies, or a related field, and have excellent organizational, interpersonal communication, team building, and collaboration skills. A track record in undergraduate teaching, and previous experience developing active learning curricula, assessing learning outcomes, and creating inclusive learning environments is required. The Senior Lecturer title will be considered for an applicant with at least 6 years of experience in a comparable role.

The following materials are required and should be submitted with your application:

  • Cover letter referencing the position, your teaching experience and interests.
  • Curriculum vitae.
  • Names and contact information of three references.
