Library Cataloging Coordinator

POSITION DETAILS

Hunter College seeks a highly motivated, adaptive, and enthusiastic Library Cataloging Coordinator to support the discovery of materials within the Hunter College Libraries.

Reporting to the Metadata and Discovery Librarian, the Library Cataloging Coordinator assists with workflows within the Technical Services department that support the discoverability of library materials across the four branches of the Hunter College Libraries. The Library Cataloging Coordinator catalogs and processes new acquisitions and gift materials utilizing international databases and following established practices for bibliographic description. The Library Cataloging Coordinator maintains the accuracy of bibliographic data in the CUNY-wide consortium database and ensures adherence to local practices as well as those established by the CUNY Office of Library Services (OLS).

This position is based at Hunter College’s main campus located on East 68th Street in Manhattan and will support branch libraries for Social Work & Public Health, Health Professions, and Art. Along with the CUNY Title Overview, the responsibilities of the Library Cataloging Coordinator are to:

  • Assist with creating copy-catalog records for a variety of material types and formats across all branches of the Hunter College Libraries while utilizing OCLC Connexion and the consortium-level functionalities within Ex Libris Alma
  • Process library materials to ensure their proper identification and security
  • Update and maintain location and holdings data based on local needs to improve consistency and accuracy in the online catalog
  • Help perform CUNY-wide data cleanup projects in conjunction with the CUNY Office of Library Services (OLS)
  • Maintain and update collections data related to replacement copies of missing and damaged materials, library weeding, and other collection management needs
  • Run reports on collection related statistics to support efficiency and growth within the Cataloging unit and the Libraries at large
  • Monitor and coordinate ordering of department supplies
  • May support the supervision and training of student workers in the Cataloging unit
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with cataloging in MARC format while following RDA guidelines and using Library of Congress authority headings
  • Experience with office software (Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Google Suite)
  • Experience using ExLibris Alma or a comparable ILS
  • Great customer service skills
  • Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines while correctly applying intricate guidelines
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal oral and written, collaborative, and communication skills
  • Prior experience working in a library

  • Coordinates with faculty, students, and librarians to ensure needed materials are accessible on a timely basis
  • Provides general information in the use of library resources and services
  • Keeps records of library transactions and generates reports on usage
  • Exercises sound judgment in enforcing library policies and procedures
  • May perform and/or supervise daily operations of a service unit such as the Reserve Desk
  • May assist with digital resource management, acquisitions, and updating Library web pages
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

$ 56,720 - $66,154,Salary commensurate with education and experience.
