Job Description Summary: Responsible for ensuring the safety of all patrons in the pool area and keeping facility clean.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Under 18 with work permit, high school diploma, GED, or equivalent
- 12 to 18 months related experience or required course work/certification.
- Required to possess a current American Red Cross Lifeguard certificate
Criteria
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Watches over all swimmers and reacts accordingly.
- Trained and certified to recognize life threatening situations and to perform lifesaving skills when necessary.
- Responsible for passing the Natatorium minimum skills pre-hire requirement. Endurance Swim, Treading strength, 2 Victim Rescues, 10LB. brick retrieval from 13’ of water and CPR.
- Enforces all rules and regulations of the College and Health Department.
- Responsible for maintaining a level of fitness required to perform lifesaving skills as needed.
- Responsible for participating in all in-service training required to maintain all lifesaving skills that are appropriate to an aquatic and fitness facility.
- Checks deck equipment and puts away lesson equipment.
- Cleans bleachers, water fountains, and windowsills.
- Sweeps decks.
- Cleans scum lines and skimmer baskets.
- Wipes down weight room equipment and pads.
- Dust mops racquetball courts.
- Cleans marks off of the walls and floors of the racquetball courts.
- Administers first aid when needed.
- Performs related work as required.

- Skilled as a Lifeguard
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to effectively communicate with staff and patrons in spoken and written standard English.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Skilled in, or potential for working effectively with a diverse, multi-ethnic clientele.
Job Requirements
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively perform all lifesaving skills in and out of water as needed. Significant strength required to remove victims from the swimming pool and provide necessary care. Significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Able to rescue 150 lbs human from the water.
- Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
- As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
- A background investigation will be conducted prior to the offer of employment. A signed authorization for the release of personal information will be required if selected for an interview.
