About This Opportunity
Be part of a team that helps future veterinarians gain the hands-on skills they need to succeed. As a member of UQ Vet’s Livestock Practical Coordination team, you’ll play a vital role in delivering high-quality, practice-based learning. You will provide operational, technical and instructional support across livestock practical classes, while working closely with the Livestock Practical Coordinator to ensure our teaching runs smoothly, safely and effectively.
In this role, you’ll help create meaningful learning experiences for students, contribute to a collaborative teaching environment, and make a real impact on the next generation of veterinary professionals.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Prepare facilities, equipment and resources for undergraduate livestock practical classes; assist with tutoring and demonstrations; maintain consumables; collate teaching materials; and manage the collection, preparation and storage of cadaver specimens.
- Order consumables, maintain accurate inventories and records, and support practical research activities through data collection and preparation. Ensure all record-keeping meets Government Sector Organisation requirements.
- Demonstrate strong organisational skills, flexibility and initiative; communicate effectively with colleagues, students and clients; and contribute positively as an effective team member within the Livestock Practical Coordination team.

About You
- Bachelor’s degree in applied science (Animal Production/Veterinary Technology) and/or Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent.
- Demonstrated Production Animal handling and experience with a diverse range of production animal’s (sheep, cattle – dairy and beef, goats, poultry & pigs).
- Current Manual Australian Driver's License.
- Sound working knowledge of farm animal production enterprises and an ability to transfer and apply this knowledge in practical terms.
- Knowledge and skills in the use of computer software packages for word processing, data storage and retrieval, email, spreadsheets and other administrative activities.
- Demonstrated interest and ability in participating in undergraduate teaching.
- Knowledge of Animal Ethics requirements an advantage.
- Physically fit and ability to undertake physically strenuous work activities outdoors, in all seasons, with exposure to animal biological materials.
- Reliable, dependable, and adaptable availability, including as required for early starts and/or late finishes.
- Attention to detail, pride in work and demonstrated motivation toward delivering best possible work task outcomes.
Appointment to this role is subject to the successful completion of relevant pre-employment checks, which may include verification of the right to work in Australia and other role-specific requirements such as mandatory immunisations. This may also include checks relating to gender-based violence matters or other integrity and conduct requirements.
