This is a fixed term position until 31st December 2026 working full-time.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) Coordinator to join the team behind the MAGENTA study (Maternal And preGnancy hEalth aNd elevaTed heAt) at Swansea University. Funded by the Wellcome Trust, MAGENTA explores how heat exposure and climate change affect pregnancies health across our communities. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in ensuring the voices of patients and the public are meaningfully involved in a major piece of health research. You’ll work with our PPIE Lead to coordinate and deliver inclusive, accessible activities that support real engagement, from co-creating public events and workshops to producing materials for lay audiences and helping to coordinate public panels.

You’ll be part of a friendly, interdisciplinary team of researchers including data scientists, immunologists, and public health experts. Based at Singleton Campus, you’ll work within the world-leading Secure Anonymised Information Linkage (SAIL) Databank environment and Swansea’s Institute of Life Science.

We’re looking for someone who is a great communicator with interpersonal skills, highly organised, and committed to involving diverse voices in research. Experience running workshops or engaging with communities—especially underrepresented groups—is highly valued. You’ll also have the chance to help shape strategy and to support communications (including web and social media content).

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about health, equality, and community involvement in research. If you care about making research more inclusive, impactful, and meaningful—this is your chance to be part of something important.

Welsh Language Skills

The Welsh language level required for this role is Level 1 - A little. The role holder will be able to pronounce Welsh words, answer the phone in Welsh (good morning/afternoon) and use very basic everyday words and phrases (thank you, please etc.). Level 1 can be reached by completing a 1 hour course.

The University is a proud bilingual institution, our Welsh Language Strategy outlines our aspiration to promote the language and enable our staff to engage with the language as an additional workplace skill and as a gateway to new cultural and social opportunities. Applications are welcome in Welsh and will not be treated less favourably than those submitted in English. Welsh speakers have the right to an interview in Welsh. Applicants for a role where Welsh skills are essential are expected to present their application in Welsh and will be interviewed in Welsh, if shortlisted.

Additional Information

Applications for this role will take the format of a CV submission and cover letter.

A satisfactory DBS certificate must be provided before a start date can be confirmed.

We truly value inclusive recruitment practices and want everyone to feel safe and supported during the application process. For transparency, one of our shortlisting and interview panel members is neurodivergent. If you'd like to share any relevant information, you're very welcome to, but please know it's completely optional. If you’d like to discuss any reasonable adjustments we can offer to assist you, please feel free to reach out to Sophie Lacey at s.l.lacey@swansea.ac.uk.
