Job Description Summary
We are looking for a Research Project Manager under the direction of Dr. D. Kacy Cullen, to assume the responsibility of leading large and small animal studies, using a peripheral nerve injury model to investigate regenerative strategies in a neurotrauma and tissue engineering laboratory. The project manager will work closely with other members of the lab as well as outside collaborators. She/he is furthermore part of a multidisciplinary team of biomedical scientists and clinicians, striving to advance the treatment of peripheral nerve injury in people. She/he is expected to perform large and small animal handling, behavioral testing, stereotaxic surgery, post-mortem histological analysis, and statistical analysis. The scientist is furthermore expected to write summary reports and papers. Additionally, she/he will assist in the preparation of publications, presentations, and administrative reports.
Job Responsibilities
- Conduct research of significant value in the biomedical field with a special focus on peripheral nerve injury and tissue engineering research
- Plan, conduct, and manage research projects within the federal and institutional regulations and policies, including compiling and analyzing study findings and preparing reports for sponsors and/or federal agencies as appropriate
- Collaborate with researchers, external agencies, and institutions to develop cooperative research initiatives
- Train and oversee technical staff, students, and other lab personnel in lab procedures
- Promotes free discussion, research progress, and overall morale
- Expertise in clinical treatment of peripheral nerve injury and surgical experience.
- Research project coordination or other relatable work experience.
- Demonstrated ability with statistical software and experience analyzing qualitative data.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Computer literacy with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
- Supervising and managing a multi-disciplinary team. Desire to provide mentorship to junior technicians and graduate students
- Large animal surgery and experimental management, especially in the setting of preclinical studies
- Rodent surgery, particularly stereotactic injections and microsurgical techniques
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Position contingent upon funding.
