Mediation Center Program Assistant

Position Summary

Located 45 minutes from the Nations Capital, nestled in a history-rich community of southern Maryland, The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) has been twice named in the top 150 community colleges by the Aspen Institute with academic programs in over 100 disciplines. The Mediation Center Program Assistant assists the Director in coordination of the Mediation Program, which provides mediation services to the citizens of Charles County and various referral partners. The program offers mediation to include parenting plans, divorce plans, facilitation, conflict workshops, community conferencing, and dialogue circles services. Duties related to the various programs include responding to telephone inquiries and e-mails, performing intakes, and scheduling mediations for citizens who wish to utilize mediation services. The Program Assistant coordinates volunteers who perform mediation services. Additionally, the Program Assistant is responsible for triaging community conference referrals to confirm participants interest in services and facilitating the handoff to the appropriate facilitators.

Reports to: Director I, Mediation Center

The hiring salary for this position will be from the min to mid-point of the salary range advertised.This position is open until filled.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Mediation Intake 25%

  • Conduct phone intakes from self-referrals and walk-ins and make pro-active mediation intake calls to District Court ADR and Outreach referrals.

Mediation Scheduling 25%

  • Coordinate setting up mediations to include volunteer management, site location, and participant notifications.

Case Management 25%

  • Follow mediation cases from initial intake calls to conclusion to include entering data into Insightly, coordination of location, times, dates, stats and closing cases.

Pre-prep Call Community Conference 15%

  • Make triage calls for Community Conferences resulting from referrals from school administrators to confirm the parents want to move forward with the conference.

Data Collection & Entry 5%

  • Collect data as needed from the center services for MACRO, CMM and Outreach partners. Input data into Insightly and any other reports as needed.
  • Assists in preparation of grant reports pertinent to the program.

Outreach 5%

  • Monitor and coordinate site, partnership, and outreach follow-up for continued mediation referrals.

Additional Duties:

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Training

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED Certificate.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Completion of 45 Hour Basic Mediation Training by Community Mediation Maryland (CMM).
  • Experience with Help Desk or Customer service calls

  • Effective and creative problem solver that has training as an inclusive mediator or is committed to being trained as a mediator.
  • Possesses a passion for conflict management and social justice.
  • Receptive to constructive feedback from partners, staff, Local Advisory Council, volunteers, and others.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
  • Ability to work with a diverse staff and client community.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through oral and written communications.
  • High ethics, integrity, and confidentiality consistent with the position.
  • Attention to detail and follow-through and ability to juggle multiple projects effectively.
  • Ability to work well with people of diverse ages, ethnicities, and education levels.
  • Ability to use good judgment, respect confidentiality, and exercise sensitivity when confronted with conflict.
  • Ability to stay focused during time constraints and high emotions of clients.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is mostly sedentary work which requires exerting up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a relatively safe, and secure work environment.
