Job Description
The Systemwide Reentry Specialist advances the mission of the Minnesota Consortium for Higher Education in Prison (MNCHEP) by leading the development, coordination, and continuous improvement of reentry support systems for justice-impacted students across Minnesota. Reporting to the MNCHEP Executive Director, this position is responsible for designing institutionally agnostic reentry frameworks that support educational continuity as students transition from incarceration to campus and community settings.
The Reentry Specialist provides technical assistance to colleges and universities, builds cross-sector partnerships with the Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC), state agencies, and community organizations, and supports alignment of reentry practices across participating institutions. The role focuses on building institutional capacity through procedures, training, and operational tools while providing direct navigation support where campus infrastructure has not yet been established.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Systemwide Reentry Program Design and Coordination across participating colleges and universities to ensure consistent and effective reentry practices across participating institutions.
- Stakeholder Engagement, Technical Assistance, and Outreach across institutions to ensure consistent and coordinated reentry support and improve educational access and outcomes for reentering students statewide.
- Reentry Network Administration and Data Informed Practice to ensure consistent, compliant and data-informed reentry coordination across institutions.
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as an effective and collaborative partner.
Salary Range:
$25.67 - $37.26 hours / $53,599 - $77,799 annually
Minimum Qualifications
- Two (2) years of experience supporting student success, reentry navigation, peer mentorship, or educational access initiatives in higher education, community, correctional, or reentry-focused settings. A bachelor's degree may substitute for 12 months of experience and an associate's degree for 6 months.
- Experience providing guidance, coordination, or peer support to students navigating higher education systems, reentry services, or both.
- Experience working across institutional, correctional, or community settings to connect students with educational or reentry-related resources.
- Lived experience in higher education in prison, reentry navigation, peer mentorship, or justice-impacted student support may be considered in combination with formal employment, student leadership, or community-based roles.
- Demonstrates an ongoing understanding of cultural fluency, incorporates culturally responsive practices, and actively engages in antiracism professional development learning opportunities.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities, with the capacity to handle multiple responsibilities and deadlines
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to write with purpose and clarity to reach and inspire diverse types of audiences
Preferred Qualification
- Experience developing procedures, guidance, or tools to support reentry or educational navigation.
- Experience leading peer mentorship, reentry navigation, or student support initiatives.
- Experience coordinating across colleges, correctional facilities, or community-based organizations.
- Experience working with Minnesota State, DOC partners, or justice-impacted student populations

In order to be considered for this position, you must be in good standing with Minneapolis College
