Job Summary
Develop and teach a variety of courses related to the Mortuary Science Program at Chandler Gilbert Community College. Evaluate and modify courses when necessary to meet the changing needs of the industry. This program leads to an AAS degree in the mortuary science program. This position reports to the Mortuary Science Program Director.
Essential Functions
Supervises and instructs a diverse population of students in a classroom setting; develops written syllabi/course outlines and course materials; evaluates knowledge of subject matter taught and monitors students' scholastic records; prepares and grades assignments and exams. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Three (3) years of occupational experience as well as a Bachelor's degree in any field AND past employer documentation, licensed to practice embalming in Arizona, licensed to practice funeral directing in Arizona, a graduate of an ABFSE accredited program, experience in funeral service practice, experience in restorative arts. OR One (1) year of occupational experience as well as a Master's degree or higher in any field AND past employer documentation, licensed to practice embalming in Arizona, licensed to practice funeral directing in Arizona, a graduate of an ABFSE accredited program, experience in funeral service practice, experience in restorative arts.
Desired Qualifications
- Two (2) years work experience as a funeral services provider
- Demonstrated excellence in communication skills
- Current license to practice funeral directing and embalming in Arizona State or ability to acquire Arizona State license within six (6) months if licensed in another state
- Knowledge of current funeral services practices, laws, and regulations
- Ability to qualify for an AZ state professional-technical certificate
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications
- Previous experience with an online LMS (Canvas)
Special Working Conditions
Available classes to be staffed are at Williams Campus. Courses include: MSP 201 Mortuary Science, Sociology, and Religion; MSP 202 Embalming; MSP 203 Microbiology for Funeral Service; MSP 204 Chemistry for Funeral Service; MSP 206 Mortuary Administration II; MSP 207 Restorative Art; MSP 208 Legal, Regulatory, and Ethical Issues in Funeral Service; MSP 211 Compendium for Mortuary Science. Depending on the needs of the department, may be required to teach evening and/or weekend classes, 8-week and/or 16-week classes, at multiple sites or locations. May be required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs. May be exposed to hazardous chemicals.
