Neurosurgeon - Associate Professor (Tenure Track)
About the Job
The University of Minnesota Department of Neurosurgery invites applications for a Tenure-track neurosurgeon-research scientist with training in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery. The successful candidate will contribute to the department's academic mission through groundbreaking research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and mentorship of trainees.
The successful applicant will be expected to enhance the existing stereotactic and functional neurosurgery program at the University of Minnesota by playing a leadership role in research, developing new clinical initiatives, and participating in resident education. Level of appointment and compensation are dependent on the applicant's qualifications and experience.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide advanced neurosurgical care in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery.
- Develop and lead an independent research program.
- Secure and maintain external funding from federal agencies (e.g., NIH, NSF), foundations, or industry.
- Publish high-impact research in peer-reviewed journals and present at national/international conferences.
- Teach and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows.
- Participate in departmental, institutional, and professional service activities.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across clinical and research domains.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- MD or MD/PhD from an accredited institution.
- Board certification or eligibility in Neurosurgery.
- Demonstrated track record of independent research and scholarly productivity.
- History of securing competitive research funding.
- Commitment to academic excellence and mentorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Significant background in advancing research to expand clinical application of neuromodulation, including proven track record of research funding and publication
- Leadership in multidisciplinary collaborative programs
- Interest in developing innovative technologies or therapies.
- Demonstrated surgical technical excellence.
Pay and Benefits
Pay Range: This role is dually employed by the University of Minnesota and University of Minnesota Physicians. Salary at the University of Minnesota is dependent upon academic effort of the person hired, and begins at $55,000. Clinical salary, aligned with clinical effort, is provided through University of Minnesota Physicians. Total salary is competitive with market and based on AAMC salary benchmarks.
