Non-stipendiary Research Fellowship
Applications are invited for a non-stipendiary Research Fellowship in the fields of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology which will normally be tenable for three years from 1 October 2026. Applications are welcome from any individual who has already secured funding from any source to work on a post-doctoral project within the Sciences at Cambridge University, or who is currently under consideration for such funding and expects to hear the outcome shortly.
Candidates would normally be expected to have completed no more than five years full time equivalent post-doctoral research. Research Fellowships will not normally be awarded to people who have held comparable post-doctoral positions. Successful candidates will normally have submitted their theses by the commencement of the Fellowship.
The prime duty of a Research Fellow will be to pursue research, and they will be expected to provide a written report on the progress of their research each year.
All Research Fellows are members of the Governing Body and receive a Fellowship stipend, as well as full dining rights entitling them to seven free meals a week. Research Fellows can also apply for up to £800 a year to support research expenses. Additionally, £300 of book grants are available to Research Fellows on application. There is also College accommodation at advantageous rates, subject to availability.
Churchill College, Clare College, Murray Edwards College, Robinson College and Trinity Hall operate a Joint Application Scheme for Early Career Research Fellowships, with a total of eight Fellowships offered for 2026.
Full information regarding all the Fellowships on offer, further particulars and registration details will be available at the Joint Application Scheme website on Friday 10 October 2025 via the 'Apply' link above.
All applications to be submitted online by Monday 10 November 2025.
Applications will be considered by all Colleges offering Fellowships in the relevant field. Competition is likely to be intense; in 2024 over 1300 applications were received.
