NTT Faculty - Assistant Professor of Practice (2 Positions)

The College of Health and Human Sciences at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is seeking qualified applicants for two (2) Assistant Professor of Practice positions within the fully accredited entry-level Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) hybrid weekend program. These are full-time, term, nine-month, non-tenure track positions. Based on course availability, summer appointments may be offered. The 9-month academic appointment begins August 12, 2026.

Due to the newly established $100,000 fee for H-1B petitions requesting consular processing outside of the U.S., Southern Illinois University is unable to provide H-1B sponsorship at this time for any prospective applicant who is outside of the U.S. and requires consular processing.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.

Examples of Duties

• Provide direct classroom/laboratory/clinical instruction and student engagement as assigned. Teach via online and traditional delivery methods. Provide indirect teaching, such as: student selection, student advisement, capstone committee, recruitment, and retention for the OTD program.
• Participate in professional practice, seminars, or workshops necessary to maintain up-to-date skills in the occupational therapy profession.
• Maintain teaching assignment consistent with the workload of a non-tenure track faculty position within the College of Health and Human Sciences.
• Comply with the spirit and intent of the University, College, and School Operating Papers.
• Contribute to program curriculum development and accreditation processes.
• Evaluate student performance, maintain accurate records of student progress, and submit final grade rosters in accordance with program/school/college and university policy.
• Engage in other duties as determined by the Director of the School of Health Sciences and as indicated in the non-tenure track faculty contract.
• Support and positively contribute to SIU’s mission of student success and retention through actions and responsibilities within this role.
• Possibly serve as the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator for the OTD program.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• An earned Doctorate in Occupational Therapy (e.g., OTD, PhD, DHS, DrOT), or an earned degree in Occupational Therapy with a Doctorate degree in a related field of study by start date.
• Occupational Therapist, certified by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) and licensed or eligible for licensure as an Occupational Therapist in the state of Illinois by the start date.
• Occupational therapy experience in adult, mental health/community practice; pediatric and/or behavioral health practice.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Three years of experience as a full-time occupational therapist in adult, mental health/community practice, pediatrics, and/or behavioral health settings.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational and technology skills.
• Teaching experience at the post-secondary education level in an online or blended format.
• Working knowledge of educational theory and methodology.
