- Search NumberPJ # 7242TitleAssistant Professor, GeneticsCategoryAcademicDepartmentBiological SciencesAbout The Position:Expected to begin Fall 2025, this tenure-track position will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in introductory biology, genetics, communicating biology, and upper-division elective courses in their area of expertise. The successful candidate may be asked to teach courses in a distance learning format. The successful applicant will join a department of colleagues that are passionate about undergraduate teaching and research, and will be required to be an effective educator, develop a research program leading to undergraduate presentations and publications, participate in university service, and contribute to undergraduate advising of a diverse student body. The Biological Sciences Department offers five majors and three minors, giving students multiple opportunities to thrive in the areas that interest them. We are part of the School of Arts & Sciences which provides excellence in learning opportunities for all students at SUNY Plattsburgh through a core liberal arts education. We train students who can think critically, have mastered their discipline, can communicate effectively and are broadly educated. ABDs will be considered for appointment at a lesser (qualified) rank and salary, upon proof that the applicant’s defense of their dissertation will be scheduled within the first year of the appointment. A successful ABD applicant will receive promotion to the rank of Assistant Professor and a salary increment at the start of the semester following the award of the terminal degree. An ABD hire will be limited to a one-year appointment, subject to renewal for one year only (2 years maximum).
- Ability to teach lecture and/or lab courses in general biology, genetics, as well as communicating biology, and advanced electives in their field of expertise
- Ability to establish and run a research program with undergraduate students leading to peer reviewed publications and presentations
- Demonstrated commitment to institutional equity in teaching, research, advising, and/or service
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with faculty, staff and administrators
- Preferred Qualifications:Record of published scholarship and grant funding
- Record of successful mentorship of undergraduate student researchers
- Proven effective track record in undergraduate education
- Ability to teach courses in the areas of cell biology, bioinformatics, and/or forensic science
