Oden Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Christianity, Judaism, or American Religions

Carleton College, Department of Religion, seeks qualified candidates for a two-year postdoctoral fellow in Christianity, Judaism, or American religions, to begin September 1, 2026. The candidate must have a Ph.D. in hand (received less than five years ago) by the start-date of the position. Appointment involves half-time research and writing and half-time teaching for a total of 5 courses over a two year, six term period (2-3 courses per year, likely 3 courses in 2026-27 and 2 courses in 2027-28). Candidates should (a) have primary training in the religious and cultural traditions of Christianity, Judaism, or American religions (or teaching competency in at least 2 of these 3 areas), (b) be skilled at relating both historical and contemporary materials to their various cultural settings, and (c) have a strong interest and teaching competence in theoretical and comparative issues in the field of religious studies. We are particularly interested in candidates whose specialization engages questions related to any of the following: media studies and technology, popular culture, bioethics, gender, race, or religion and public life.

The expected starting salary range for this position is between $69,000 - $75,740. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility. Carleton also offers a robust suite of benefits including:
