The Office of the President is seeking an individual with strong interpersonal skills who has the ability to listen exceptionally well with a high level of comprehension. The Ombudsperson will provide a consistent and centralized point of contact for questions, concerns, or problems that may arise at the University. This position is located in Brookings. This position is a 12-month, 45% time, non-benefits eligible position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Providing impartial consultation and referral to faculty, staff, and students.
- Presenting feedback as the person within the university community who identifies potential problems or trends that may affect the campus community; if appropriate, recommend creative ways to address.
- Community outreach and education, serving as a liaison between individuals or groups and the university administrative structure, and serving as a communicator or informal facilitator, as appropriate.
- Establish/maintain the operations of the Ombudsperson non-staffed, solo office to include hours, web site, etc. to ensure that the integrity of the office is maintained through independence, fair process, neutrality, impartiality, and timely attention to the resolution of issues while treating people with dignity and respect.
BENEFITS:
This position is eligible for prorated leave and holiday pay.
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area
- 1 to 3 years of relevant experience
- Sufficient experience and skills fulfilling conflict resolution or related services that effectively demonstrate the ability to provide an ombudsperson role at a University.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Exceptional communication and active listening skills
- Ability to identify key themes; potential concerns; and areas for continuous improvement
- Ability to maintain neutrality and confidentiality in all consultations and conversations
